Really lame with horse knowleage but looking for a lovely horse!!

Hello erm not really getting this site as no one will share any other chats!! Sorry people, if anyone is a music lover I do beg you to chat as no one will talk to me!! Although I do question, does anyone live in Tunbridge Wells?! The reason why I ask is because I'm looking for a horse, and I tell you now Im dumb in the horse department I do try but Im a experenced rider though so Im not that bad!! I just would like to find a horse for a good sale, tack and rugs included if that isn't to cheeky! As Im a first buyer, I would like a horse with a loving temperment, loyal, nice to do activties with e.g jump, compertion etc. I would like the horse to have good experenced and have good manors as I want to Love the horse!! My favorite type of horse is a Latvian warmblood the reason to this being is because I attend hadlow and there is the most lovely horse there called Gorkie and he to me is a friend so any simular horses to him please reply!

Hi, I see your at Hadlow, is there anyone there who could put you in contact with a reputable dealer in the area, or perhaps they know of one being sold privately?
 
Most websites have good first ponies, latvian warmbloods i think are rare-ish to find as a specific breed but i am not too sure. Ask the staff at the yard.
 
Hi Alex, i do have a lovely horse but shes not for sale !!! Do they have a notice board at uni? I know a few good dealers in my area but thats not much help to you. im Rachael by the way, pleased to meet you.
 
Try looking in local tack shops they often have some horses for sale notices. Also try to find a reputable dealer near you, you need reccommendations for that. Also ask around friends see if they know anyone selling etc
 
I thought that too as Ive always had a gelding and I have bad attitude too sometimes! However I bought this mare on the recommendation of a good friend and she is the business!!
 
I have a Latvian warmblood gelding, they are very very rare!!

There are may other types of warmbloods to choose from though!

so what are looking for in terms of age, height, etc

i agree its a great place here.
in answer to ure question, some horse knowledge is kind of a big thing when having ure own horse. if u don't know how to look after it then ure asking for trouble.
even on a yard where the staff do all the care, things can still be missed as they are dealing with so many horses, whereas 1 on 1 or 1 on 2 (etc for those who have 2+

ure more likely to notice if anything is wrong or just not quite right with ure horse. so many horses end up abused or neglected mostly through ignorance rather than sheer cruelty.
i'd advise u to get some work experience for at least a few months before thinking about buying a horse. ring round local yards, riding schools etc and ask about helping out.
also have u looked into the costs for this horse, can u afford the upkeep, how much does shoes cost, vaccinations, worming. the idea of having a horse sounds wonderful but in reality it takes a lot of work, getting some yard work exoerience will also prepare u for how much hard work having a horse is. the riding is the fun part, the rest is muddy, cold, back breaking and where there's horses there usually great highs and big lows.
you say u'd like a horse with great manners etc so u could love it, but if its not cared for properly it could end up the complete opposite, i've seen it so many times before.
in the end its up to u what u wanna do. i've said my piece. good luck with everything

Sweet as! The reason I say this is becaus ea couple of years ago I loaned a mare called Panda, she was lovely really good team work when we were together but after a while she refused to stop for me or canter and constantly pulled faces and that's why Im put off because I did nothing to upset her. It also made it worse when the owner/Instructer constantly screamed at me while riding and making me feel tiny! I don't intend to lan again as I get fed up when people at Hadlow say the own a horse but they just loan the horses! I admire them that they contribute but I just would love to have lovable horse which I can get on with!!
 
If you are a first time horse owner I would share or loan before you buy, espec if you want something like a Latvian warmblood, or indeed most warmbloods.

Mine can be an angel but if you cant ride or he doesnt like you he will take the pish well and truly, last owner sold him because he napped home 2 miles with her.
Its easy to see beautiful horses and want them, but those breeds, thinking spanish, warmbloods etc are usually the hardest to ride as they can be sensitive and easily ruined.

For a first horse I would go for something that has been there and done it, who can teach you and be forgiving of any mistakes.

I get many admiring looks and black beauty comments out on my boy but sometimes I would like a laid back chilled ride LOL

oh thank god for that! lol just ure title for the topic didn't sound it. i've bee n round/ridden/worked with horses for 17 years and i'm still learning too. an old lady who was over 80 and had horses all her life told me she learns at least 1 new thing about horses everyday.

Im from Kent too but near Canterbury, my daughter is hoping to go to Hadlow after shes done her gsce's next year, i hear its great.
 
I echo the advice to share first, before you buy if you can't get work experience to help you with the handling/stable management.

Finding a good share horse helped me back into riding and onto buying a horse after I stopped riding at 17
