ok got this mare on loan been cutting down her food as hes so fat! as i have been cutting down her food-slowly shes been getting really moody yesterday i was leading her out in her tack he planted her self and bit me for no reason and then reared and came down on my foot looks like too broken toes (great) spoke to old owners who said that whats shes like when on a diet feed her back up and keep her fat shes fine then great help! got some one coming to help with her in few days and back person coming any other ideas?

Put her on Oestress, fabulous stuff!!! I had my moody mare on that for one tub, then put her on Agnus Castus (which is a plant). She went from pure evil to a little cuddly sweetheart of a mare! Really worth a go.

I can understand how she feels! I've been cutting down and it really makes me grumpy!

So, you need to replace her 'fat foods' with 'thin foods'. Like feeding her well soaked hay in haylage nets so she can munch all day but there's not much feed value.

And if you're riding her, ride her more! Longer and faster - build up slowly of course and depends on the ground. A 4hr hack twice a week should do it!

Have a blood test done - it could be she's deficiant in something that she gets from eating more food. My mare gets grumpy when she's on a diet too but not that bad

I would give her something good to replace the bad stuff you have taken away and put her on Steady up it works wonders with mares and their stroppy temperaments and it isn't too expensive and in 2 weeks you will see the difference providing it is just hormones and grumpyness.

Try Stressy Mare - herbal supplement. Also had to get about 70kg off my cob mare, she got lammy in February, (be careful with yours - if she is really overweight) I know she wouldn't have been feeling great with having lammy but she was an absolute sod to start with, really grumpy, difficult to deal with and generally not nice, she was really frustrated with triple netted hay! Now she has recovered from the lammy and the weight is off she obviously feels (and looks) better, rides better and is not half as grumpy. Good luck with yours.

Sound a bit like your previous loan pony, that one was fine to start with then a loony when you gave it back. Deja-vu by any chance.
