Really hoping some of you can suggest some feeds I could try. My pony is 23, fizzy and in light work. I have to be careful what she eats having suffered laminitis and now has cushings. The additional problem I have is that she is allergic to the following food items: beet, linseed/flax, wheat and nettles. She is also a REALLY fussy feeder.

Have tried healthy hooves (although I am not keen on the molasses) and she picks the pellets out and leaves them. Hi-fi molasses free she picks at and won't eat more than a handful.
If anyone can think of something to try please reply - she doesn't need much feed just something to get her vitamins and prascend down her.

Thank you in advance

Baileys Fibre Plus Nuggets - giant nuts that look like treats. Low energy, low starch and can even be used as a hay replacer, good for fussy feeders. Also not expensive :) Check them out on Baileys website...

Thanks for the replies! Kaiserchief - if it says wheatfeed it doesn't actually include the wheat grain so she is ok with that - will investigate!

If she can eat Wheat feed then why not feed that? Wheat feed or middlings is a great feed for keeping condition on. I feed it to my lami prone cushings pony when she drops weight & to my TB's as it doesn't fizz them up.
£7 a bag it lasts for ages. Mix with plenty of water to make a mash. I feed with alfafa-a oil (unmollased) to keep calcium/phosphorus ratios balanced.
That + a balancer or a vitamin/mineral supplement + ad lib hay :)

Hello there,
Have you tried allen and page fast fibre? It's a low energy high fibre feed so avoids excitable behaviour! They do other feeds to such as calm and condition which are all non heating. I have my TB very fizzy 21 year old mare on Calm and condition (although I think calm and condition may have linseed in it), Alfa a oil and vitamins and minerals and she eats the whole lot gone! Maybe can be very fussy to when she wants to be, like not eating happy hoof etc. Fast fibre is ideal for older horses as it's a soft mash and most horses eat it, i've never heard of one not eating it. Allen and page do a molasses free range, with various products designed for Fizzy horses ect, because they do not have barley or molasses in them, some are also designed for those who have laminitis.
Have you tried adding apple cider vinegar to your horses feed? Every fussy horse i've had on it do not turn there noses up when it's added.
