I have a 5year old dales who has recently had muscle damage on his back due to a fall and tensing him self up a lot. I had a back lady out who showed me how to massage his back. I did this a few weeks and she came back out again and told me the tightness had gone down but she felt what she thought was fluid? He is not being ridden or doing any exercise since the back lady has been seeing him. He is otherwise healthy, still eating, drinking, not at all lame walking from stable to paddock. if anything he is being too good for him!

wondered if anyone else has experienced this before and can help. He loves work and is getting bored being out of work

Many thanks Jessica.

What did the vet recommend you do?
Usually physio will include a carefully planned exercise regime to build up the muscles again once the spasm has been relaxed by the massage and treatment, it may be just lunging at first but they rarely require much time off unless they are lame or there is an underlying problem when they should be referred back to the vet for further investigation , is your "back lady" a properly qualified physio?

yes, she came highly recommend but we are a little worried and questioning things. we have a vet coming on out on Tuesday but i really wanted to see what i could do for him now in case he was in pain. not that he is showing any signs of pain. the only thing that is out of character for him is him being so quiet. We have been told to not work him, but do you think that might do him some good?

It is good that you have the vet coming, highly recommended is not always appropriately qualified, he may well be in pain and require bute to settle down whatever has been going on, I have never had to stop working any of mine during physio treatment, except for the following day, unless they are actually lame in which case the physio will not normally treat unless the vet has already seen the horse.

Wait and see what the vet says, I wouldn't work him until he has been just in case there is something making him sore.
