I am taking my mare to a jumping clinic today. First time I have been to something like this ever. So in preparation I have put on two pairs of lucky socks. The only thing is these particular lucky socks are cow socks. Are they likely to do the trick or should I rush to buy some other lucky socks and if so what sort?!

:p:D

That all depends on the sort of cows featured on the socks...

Standard black and white cows signify good luck ONLY if the cows are facing left, its a whole different ball game if the are facing right

Alternatively, go and purchase some lucky socks that have alpacas on, NOT LHAMAS!

Good luck :D

Perhaps you should email a photo to a sock communicator and see what they say? (I offer very reasonable rates, btw. £40 for a single sock, or £75 for a pair.)

Oh god, they are upside down black and white cows with head phones on what does that mean!?

For gods sake I have two pairs on what is the cost for that?? Obviously I need to get the socks back sack and crack checked as well as feeding them micronised linseed and a good hoof supplement. Do you think I am made of money?!

sod the socks:p

what i want to know is how the heck are you managing to get out to a clinic with all this ruddy snow.Jealous:p

Aye well! Left hand pic is where I am going and right hand pic is where I am (except roads are black now or I wouldn't be going!). Clinic is about 6 miles away and 300ft lower!!

OMG so glad I saw this in time. You only use cow socks if your horse is black and white. It won't work with any other colour of horse. For best results, forward this to all your facebook friends. If 10 people reply, you'll have a sticky bum (!) for 5 years.

HTH :)

:D

My comp socks have snowmen on them - EVEN in summer!! These work well for me so I would recommend Christmas socks if you can find them!

Gah I don't have any Christmas socks. It's all ruined!!!

DARE YOU to post in 'Competition and Training'!!

Think you should put boots on your horse rather than socks, as you are jumping.......!

I bet no one would reply :D:p:D

I might put boots on if she is good.

DOOMED!!!

Horse is bay dun and white, I defy you to find a bay dun and white cow on a sock :(

The answer is to go sockless! If you can't find appropriate socks for luck, then sady you will have to have cold toes, unless of course you have some extra lucky knickers that can counteract the bad luck from the wrong socks. :D

What ever you do DON'T wear polka dot socks!
I have been reliably informed that mine were the cause of me getting dragged out of a stable by a bargy horse and getting holey jodhs and scraped knees ;):D

Actually I reckon it would turn into a very long thread about what people wear for luck!

YorksG, can't believe you're making people go without socks in this weather!! Are you dug out yet?

Semi dug out, the yard still has the Matterhorn in it and it is snowing again! The farrier was due to shoe the rridden pair yesterday, that was a non starter, but he did, very kindly, come and have another look and a dig around in the old mares foot to look for the abscess she has been brewing for a fortnight  He had to walk from the end of the lane! We can get my car off the road, but sisters car is buried up to the level of the windows. The horses have been in since Thursday, can't get them out, can't muck out, they are being incredibly good and placid. I have just been to my car to collect coal and honeychop on the sledge!

If you will be jumping at all the socks MUST have the minimum appropriate level of bling. Bling is required at every SJ event to prevent the dirt demon claiming you. To aid you on achieving the correct level; the degree of bling is generally believed to be both directly proportional to the height being attempted but inverse to the experience of the rider.

Therefore I hope the cows have at least glitter horns or you'll be eating dirt...

Hmm well I'm off now with my medium bling socks and my dung stained cow horse :o. Might let you know if I survive, later on!
