I have loads of spray cleaners which are ok but I don’t think they do the leather a huge amount of good.
I don’t like that white cream one can’t recall the name!
I have a lovely lavender tack conditioner but OH came home the other day and almost threw up at the smell of pee... now that’s all I can smell it as aswell 😂😂- why is that?!
So what’s easy to use, conditioning to the leather and just a decent cleaner?

I got my old saddle reflocked and it came back looking like new. I asked the saddlers what they use, and they said 'horseman's one step' so i use that for everything now

We also use horsemans one step on all our tack. Nearly 20sets.
We clean it first with warm water and a squirt of fairy and then condition with the 1step.
And once in a while use neastfoot oil.
Some of the tack is 15years old and looks as good as new.

I've never heard of one step before. People usually rave about the saddler on here who makes his own. I want to say Oz but I'm not sure thats right! Hes a man, and theres not many so that should help track him down, he moved to wales a while back and did a post all about it. And now I sound like a stalker who has forgotten the stalkees name!

Yes! I remember creme de menthe?
It involved milk?!!

I also hate horsemans one-step, a friend that I used to help out always used it and my hands got covered in nasty greasy atuff when I tacked up for her. I love stubben saddle soap with leather balsam applied afterwards.

I just use lukewarm water to clean and then apply some form of leather balsam when dry. Havent used any actual saddlesoap since I was in pony club 😂 Yes its oz /cdm that has his own recipe.

Having had a horses skin chemically burnt by Horsemans one step when used after being cleaned that morning....I wouldn't touch it again....it has various petroleum extracts in it.

Can't remember the username but do you mean Old Saddlers blend? http://www.unicornleather.co.uk/lea...aVm4RkOqqGTQESmQLNyI9jaHfHmwizltixw-HHATbmR2I

It's awesome stuff, but more of a conditioner.

I'm a bridle maker and do a lot of repairs and renovate old tack. The only cleaner I use is Wilf Whites Saddle Soap - it also conditions so rarely need to use conditioner but if I do, I use my home made which is based on Oz's recipe. I do work for a few commercial yards who are rigidly old fashioned and stick to the wash it in Fairy, go over it with a glycerine bar soap and slap some oil on it occasionally regime. It wreaks the leather and stitching but keeps a nice income for the repair side of my business.

I just use the cheapy belvoir cleaner and conditioner, it takes the grime off well, then I use effax leather balm to protect it and keep it soft.
