i moved my boy into a paddock with grass now and have mangaged to stop feeding hay. he still gets a smallish feed of hi fibre nut, hi-fi original and bran. his belly was a little blown this morning so after i rode i kept him in for the morning. its so nice not to have to faff around with hay!!! :D
 
Your gonna save a fortune now :D
I've just spent nearly £100 on 10 bales of hay and the local feed shops say they can't get any more Horsehage once they've sold out thats it :( I hope we get some grass soon (but not to much because of my laminitic :rolleyes: ;) :p )
 
Lucky you. We feed big bale hay in the field and have gone from having to buy 2 or 3 bales a week to just one this weekend :D Hoping we only need to get another couple of bales before the grass is coming through properly. Have started cutting the hard feeds down too :D
 
Matt, sounds good. It'd be nice to have some grass here, it's very slow at the moment and just coming through. Thankfully I have a good doer but he's still getting haylage in the paddock. Luckily we still have a good supply.

OMG Laura, nearly 100 pounds for 10 bales of hay. Have you recovered from the shock yet? I think I'd still be in a heap on the floor and need to be resuscitated!

lol, paramedics to the scene to from CPR :D i am very lucky but am dreading next winter!!! my strategy is to buy off the field. if i had of last year i would have saved £2 out of the £5 per bale.
 
I had to stop feeding mine weeks ago as they just stopped eating it, so i have quite a bit left.
You know what they are like once grass starts coming through they look at hay in disgust, littlies are in starvation paddocks but i havnt broken it to my big fatties yet that the party will soon be over and they will have to come in soon for a few hours a day and eat the hay to keep check on their waistlines.

Once they have to come in and be restricted when there is all that grass out there thier faces will be a bit like this.:eek:
