I had my horses at a private yard in December. I was away from 18th to the 22nd and the YO was away from the 19th to 29th. She hired someone in to look after all 24 ponies (3 of which were mine) between 19th and 22nd. I looked after all 24 between 23rd and 29th. She paid the girls who looked after ponies £150 and has asked me to chip in. Bear in mind I was also paying normal rent over this period.

How much should I/would you chip in??

I wouldnt pay anything extra - if she had to get in alternative staff to cover her holidays thats not your problem. However if she does start getting stoppy - the girl looked after them for 4 days ang got £150. By my calculations you looked after them for 6 days - therefore prepare your own bill of £225 - same day rate of 37.5 that obv the otheer girl charged.

But then again thats just me

Ah, a nominal amount... if any!!! She paid someone to look after all 24 for 2 days (inc yours). You looked after ALL of hers for 6, if I am correct... I'm thinking she should be paying you. Either that or you say, ok I'll pay you (?) for 3 horses for 2 days. But you owe me (?) for 24 ponies for 6 days....

Possibly divide £150 by 27 by 2, that is what she paid the girls. That should give you an idea of what she should be paying you for 6 days, minus your three.

Thinking something just doesn't stack up!!!

yep, I would remind her, about you looking after them, and see what response you get..
difficult not to fall out with her, thats the prob.

I've moved off now, there was a very high risk of me falling oput with her when I was there. I just don't have the balls to stand up for myself!!

If she wants you to chip in, then if you divide the bill per pony for when you were away that would leave you with 18.75 ish - so about 20 pounds.

Now, I reckon most people would find it unreasonable for her to bill you given that you have already done her a favour by looking after her many more ponies for several more days than she did yours.

Personally I would give her 20 pounds, and make sure that next time either of you went away things would be more clear up front. OR alternatively not do/ask for favours from this person again, since it doesn't really seem like a good bargain for you :-)
