This is me on my horse who was virtually written off in 2012 as a neurological wreck. Vets couldn't give me a full diagnosis but my vet has been very supportive of me gently carrying on.
We have had ups and downs in the last three years but as you can see by my huge grin, we are having fun with something called Tellington touch-the ridden version. My instructor is Trudy Affleck and she is fabulous. Pete adores this and we just have a ball.
 
I remember your original post when you thought your horse could have wobblers.

I had mine pts at 10 after a fall on his neck in the field with Grade 3/4 wobblers and advised you at the time of your post. Whilst mine was an unhappy outcome I am glad that your horse has pulled through.

Without sounding negative, just remember horses that have wobblers have good days and bad days and the bad days get progressively worse. Mine was jumping discovery level only a few weeks before being pts, although the slight signs were there we didn't realise what the problem was.

I do hope your horse goes from strength to strength but at least you are both having fun for now.

I would have thought that a rope round a horses quarters would be the worst thing you could do for a horse that has a neuro deficit as he doesn't really understand where his legs are, but I guess if your vet is okay with it then its of no consequence. Your horse doesn't exactly look happy in the photo, but its very hard to judge from one or two photos without seeing the whole picture I know. I am sorry I might sound mean, I certainly don't mean to be. I really do hope it works out for you.

Did the horse go for xrays at the time? I am curious to know why the vet couldn't come up with a diagnosis.

I have never seen anything like that before, you and your horse must have a lovely bond to be able to trust one another when using this to ride. Best of luck to you x
 
Thanks Applecart. This little horse means the world to me. If I thought he was uncomfortable or unhappy I hope I would know. Interestingly we tried a more conventional training session a few weeks back and he was most definitely not happy and let me know! He looks a bit unhappy maybe but he certainly doesn't seem it from the feedback he gives me. He is also much better with the promise rope in trot than without. Maybe the original suspicion of a neurological problem was wrong. I am not a vet but I know my boy.
 
Yes he had xrays, his results were inconclusive, not wobblers but unsure what if any damage in neck. He had extensive steroid therapy and about a year off. He is able to now do most things including lateral work although I don't push it as he is so precious. He is mainly a very happy hack! Also recovered from navicular and is a Rockley rehab :)

Wow very interesting pp. Glad he is recovered, its amazing what they come back from. Thanks for not taking offence at what I was saying. I am glad he is on the mend. xx
