As above - very sill question but am at my wits end! I used to verrrry long blonde hair that I loved then all of a sudden it went very damaged and had to be cut off to shoulder length....it's still really and and knotty and just wondering with how fantastic canter mane and tail spray is on my horses, has anyone used it on their own hair and what were the results?

Sorry not very horsey and I know it's a little bit mad! :p

Haha not yet but I have long fragile hair that gets sooo tangled so might give it a go! I did try baby oil on the ends, didn't work just made it feel horrid, also tried furniture polish haha! Worked for getting rid of tangles but felt awful and reeked of pine!!

I find the tresemmee conditioners quite good for both me and horsey and they are often on offer for like 2 pounds for a giant one, probably cheaper than canter!

I did a couple of times, but it makes your hair go greasy fast. Also... dont do it in a tiled bathroom, i just about broke my neck!!!

I did however find the human equivilant ;)

Leo Bancroft - gloriously Glossy, " for hair that demands incredible shine"
Awesome stuff :D

I also have long blonde hair, its alot harder to get it to shine than darker colours, but this stuff works great :)

There's a horse grooming product in the US called Mane 'n Tail. It is sold in mainstream stores for human use, and is very popular.

Probably better to use mane'n'tail shampoo & conditioner..its the original horsey one in human size 300ml bottles..you can get it on the Bay of E for around £10-12-for the set including postage..brilliant, non greasifying & smells AWESOME! I would also try coconut oil or argan oil on the ends-literally one drop on palms, rub hands together before running thru hair.olive oil too, even a drop in bath water and apple cider vinegar to rinse. My hair a bit shorter than usual now, nearer ribs than waist and uber fine so I know what you going thru. Try to use silicone free, sulphate free & paraben/rubbish free brands. L'oreal do a good one (green tube) no sulphates. £6.99 per bottle. Pureology £14 & £19 each but good..and timotei i've had great results with these..also the treseme lower sulphates range is good..if you want really pure then liquid castille soap (made from olive oil)this is the only real way to encourage improvement as well as a healthy diet, vit supplements, lots of sleep & water. My hair was very slow growing till I started using sulphate free...just be careful with animal horsey ones (tack shop bought -mane'n'tail is safe)as they do not need to list ingredients and all manner of nasties could be lurking.also when you do your last rinse, make water as cool as poss..this helps too..I'll leave the honey & onions for another thread so I don't sound more nuts than necessary!

I've got long hair and a lot of it, and I've used Mane and Tail conditioner loads of times as a detangler! Quite often to untangle before I wash it, but I have been known to do it before going out once or twice when in a rush. The smell is horrible though!

I use silicon spray (for the horses) from the hardware store its the same ingedients as most mail and tails sprays (minus the scent) and heaps cheaper. I used it on my hair once didn't go greasy.

I've used Cowboy Magic on my daughters' hair! One of them likes to twist her hair and gets really awful knots. A bit of CM worked in untangles them without having to resort to the scissors.

I think they do a human version of it because it was so good on the horses and humans wanted it for themselves. If you type it into youtube there is a lot of people reviewing it and apparently it works at getting the hair to grow quicker. I was thinking about trying it.

The best thing you can do for fragile hair is to stop heat styling it. On a normal day don't blow dry or use tongs or straighteners, just pat with a towel comb through with a wide tooth detangling comb (with a bit of leave in conditioner to help prevent breakage) and leave it. I only use heat on my long enough to sit on hair for going out or when I need to look particularly smart. The rest of the time I embrace my waves and have an extra half hour in bed!

I'm fessing up!

YES I have used mane & tail conditioner on my own hair when I was a bit stuck and had run out of "human" products.

What I did, instead of spraying direct on my own hair, was to spray a bit into the palm of both hands and then smooth that through the hair.

I used the Lynn Russell stuff on myself: also used my horse's shampoo (medicated!) on myself as had run out of shampoo!!

Actually got some compliments as to how my hair looked! So have done it again since on numerous occasions!

Eqyss Mega Tek! Bought it for the horse, and its never made it out of my bathroom. WAY better than any human conditioner! I have mad thick curly hair, and it works a treat!

Frizze eze from John Frieda. Comb will then go straight through long wet coloured hair without pulling it out and untangles really well. Also shiny when dry (and no odd smells either!) probably a bit cheaper too!

I once tried Cowboy Magic detangler on my very long hair when I was at uni and I now classify that incident as "one of those really stupid things that seems like a good idea at the time when you're 19." It made it horribly greasy and was an epic to wash out. Never again.

Yep, I've used that one and it is great. I've used a few similar products that are cheaper and equally good though, can't remember the names though, and as they last forever I never manage to buy the same one more than a couple of times!

Argan oil, I have waist length hair and never have tangles. You also need to use the correct hairbrush. Nothing that creates static, or damages the hair
