Tassy my 9 year old Alaskan Malamute has recently started going to the toilet in the house (over the last 10 days or so.)We have had her over 2 years and she's never ever done anything. A week last wednesday we found a wet patch in lounge which smelt of wee and again thursday and friday- all slightly different places although same 'end' of the room. We had it deep cleaned with an enzyme based cleaner (especially for pet accidents) and today the dog walker arrived to find a poo in the middle of the lounge (12.30pm)

I had walked her this morning- left both dogs at 8am as per usual and now this! I cant afford to keep getting the carpet cleaned and its horrible for us to live with the smell and worry.

Spoke to vet who said it was unusual for them to poo when incontinent so any idea?

I would have her urine tested regardless of the faeces, take an early morning sample to the vets to rule out UTI, otherwise it could be given her age she can not hold as well as she used too, very common in older dogs and the easiest way to curb this is to limit her space in the house so she can not pass randomly, it may even re encourage her to hold once more for a little longer if you reduce her space.
Is she still willing to go out on a morning and is she definately passing?, as sometimes oldies do become a little shy of the old "morning boot out" when they are warm and snug:D
Was the faeces solid/runny?

She goes out at 6.15 am with OH and then I walk them from 7 till 7.45/8ish she definately pooped this morning as I had to carry it half a mile to nearest poo bin. She does about 5 wee's on an average morning walk (marginally less than about a year ago when she used to go about 8/9 times)

poo was solid on morning walk and dog walker said it was solid when she picked it up.

I think I'm just a bit upset as not really trusting her in the house now. Our lounge is the biggest room in the house so maybe the laundry room might be better? I could put her in there and Nanook in the Kitchen as usual with baby gate between.

I really would take her in, I think the poo is a red herring TBH. If she has a UTI it may be a secondary symptom and she may be uncomfortable, even if she is not showing outward signs, some dogs can be very stoic.

My dog had a severe UTI which must have been brewing for months, I only realised because I saw blood on the snow when he pee'd one day, it turned out he had a massive blob of tissue floating around in his bladder, poor sod, but showed no outward signs of pain, it must have taken a while to form.
All sorted with anti-biotics.
An empty Chinese takeaway tray is a great way to collect a sample.

Is she on any other meds? Some drugs can make them less able to hold it in.

Ok, is it important its a morning wee? as I will stuggle to drop it off before work as vets opposite end of the city! (only little worcester but still 30min round trip!)

Definitely worth getting checked out, we are having lots of tests done with one of ours that drinks loads and will wet in the house which she hasn't done before and we still haven't got to the bottom of it.
Good luck :-)
