Really upset

no need to get funny with me.

and i would walk on the school (providing the surface was decent) anyday over walking a horse that hasnt been ridden for 18months on a road, imo thats seriously dangerous and asking for trouble.

There is nothing wrong with walking in an arena, unless the arena very deep and in which case i would look at other ways of doing it - that didnt involve going on a road.

You've done the right thing by not riding the horse again, if something was to happen you would not be able to carry on riding for other people or yourself.
Why is it that people have to lie about how good their horse is!
As if you knew what to expect you could handle it better than being off gaurd.

Well this arena leaves a lot to be desired, thick soggy sand which is entirely flooded with no drainage and im not even sure its legal tbh! And no fields to ride in and only option is road work.
Call my old fashioned but i've always been taught road work, road work, road work and i've never had a problem with any of the horses i have produced by doing that nor have the people who have taught me that.
And im getting funny with you because your first reply to this post was suggesting that it was all MY fault the horse is like this. Dont forget my horse isnt the only one that rears...

i agree with rambo on this one, i school/exersise for people and usually the only reason they pay me to do it is because they dont want to! ive had all sorts of wonderful discriptions of how well behaved their horse is, that it just needs bringing back into work etc.. turns out to be a fruitloop! although i do have one lovely woman who is the opposite and thinks her horse is a nutcase and wont ride it and its actually very sweet, and never puts a foot wrong.

Precisely! And yes by offering a professional service im sure to expect things like this but i just wont tolerate lying especially if it puts my safety at risk. If i had been told i could have been better prepared or turned down the job if i didnt think i was up to it. I'm sorry but no matter how professional you are, its just dumb to get on a horse like this on your own with no one else around.

yup and i hold my hands up, everyone on here knows that Archie has reared, dosent bother me in the slightest!! I couldnt care less who knows and who dosent, this isnt RL, this is a forum.......lies get you knowwhere on here.

no point, im off home now as i dont wish to get into an argument.

i hope you manage to sort things out with this horse one way or the other. I dont want to fall out with you hun x

Don't know anything about the situation past or present but P_G you reply was downright snotty. If you don't like thepost or don't have anything constructive to add, don't bloody well reply.

Kayleigh - you are quite right to refrain from riding this horse if it is as naughty as you say. When you undertook the job to ride this horse, you did so under a false impression.

You are smart - sorry but you are. I rode for people when I was younger and I didn't give a care. Most of my horses were complete lunatics to be honest and now I am older I look back and truly believe I must have been totally mad!

I am older now, and yes I still take horses on to train.......however no longer do I accept nutters. My whole livelihood is based on horses and there is absolutely no way I can be out of action, so self-preservation may have taken a few decades to kick in.......but finally it has!

It is not true that people who want their horses trained or ridden are only doing so because the horses are crazy fruitcakes. Quite simply some people do not know how to teach horses - they may well know the movements when riding PSG horses but they don't know how to get the horse there in the first place.....that's where people like you come in.

I would take negative comments, regarding your situation, with a huge pinch of salt I'm afraid. One look at some others training methods often leave a lot to be desired, so you just do your best and do what feels comfortable to you.

I think you have done the right thing, you dont want to end up getting hurt. As you say without help on the ground there could be a serious accident and the horse could end up worse!
It is a shame the owner wasnt truthful, sometimes people can be really irresponsible!

It sounds as though this horse needs to be checked over again as it is could still be in pain from its back. I know you'll feel bad that you cant help but thats life! You tried your best!
And dont worry about PG's comments I found them quite cutting... maybe she's having a bad day?? . Do you know what the owner is planning on doing with the horse now?

Thank you, yes i found the comments cutting and uncalled for as well.
Not sure, she hasnt replied to my message i left her yet. I've told her if she could find someone to help me on the ground with the horse i would be more than happy to team up with them but im just not willing to put myself at risk by doing it alone!

I think you have also done the right thing. It is one thing to ride other peoples horses if they are honest with you and say "it does such and such" can you help.

But this woman KNOWINGLY mislead you, that is the point here and its not on!

Freddie has a huge buck on him, I have a rider who comes once a week, she is very able however, I would not have dreamed in shoving her on our new one without warning her of his "habit"!

That is what is out of order here!

As far as bringing a horse back into fitness, whilst it may have it for 10 mins here and there in text books, I dont know of anyone who really does that unless their horse is coming back from an injury.....

I use roads too for fittening, especially for leg issues, it does wonders....
