Tried to get an early night after Xmas excesses but am pacing the kitchen listening to the wind howling out there. Forecast says it's 34mph winds but feels like worse. Ponies are stabled and I've just been to check them, they are fine but am having visions of stable roof flying off or worse. OH snoring away happily while water pours through bedroom window and dog howls at wind. The joys of winter!!

It's wild up here too but I know my boy is safe with my friend at her yard do not worrying about him :)

I do feel for people in this wind considering I arrived at my stables one year to find the roof all over the yard and my elderly gelding trapped in the stable and my on box rest for a tendon mare running around a yard littered in nails and bits of the metal roof :( there was a thread on here about it it was horrid :(

It's horrible here too. Sis and I have just been out to do last checks and have had to fight the tarps back onto the two Hestons of straw that are one on top of the other by the stable wall. We have shut the outside stable's top door AGAIN. The occupant was less than impressed but I certainly don't want to get up tomorrow and find the stable roof in the field, or worse still disappeared somewhere like the field water trug that went on Christmas Eve. While that wasn't a disaster, a disappearing roof would be.
Back inside and the rain is banging on the windows, 'Wuthering Heights' has nothing on us.

Did think about shutting top door of stable for bigger pony but as he's only been in at night since Sunday and still getting used to new routine I thought it might be a bit much to ask. Trying to convince myself wind not as bad as storm last week but I'm not convinced...

Stay safe everyone x

Just checked on mine - in tonight with the field water logged and the promise of bad wind and rain! Two of mine look unimpressed with their hay but totally unconcerned about the wind outside - the third has chowed down everything she's been given so even more chilled! All doors shut though - don't fancy things flying about the stable and they're used to the lock down when it's bad. Hope everyone is ok overnight.

I'm lying awake in N. Somerset at the moment and the wind and rain battering the windows is horrendous. I'm hoping my leaky windows at home will hold out and that I can journey back ok this morning.

Like SussexbytheChristmastree! Blowing a hooley. Our son gave me a weather station for Christmas which tells me the wind gusts are now over 50mph. Went out at 1a.m. to give the horses (two) their last check. They have a 'walk-in' barn in our small stable yard. They were happily standing side by side in the doorway, half asleep and toasty warm under their rugs. Another pile of hay each and an apple and I reckon they'll survive! Have just had the stable re-roofed, so I hope that stays in place. Sleep well everyone!

Bad again here too. I'm fed up with it but not too worried about the boys. Just wish I wasn't awake at half 4 listening to my little old Windows rattling away!

Really bad here :( we had loads of trees down around here last time so crossing my fingers will be able to get to the yard without too many problems this morning!

my boy spent all night out having clearly felt unsafe in his stable as only one poo and not touched his haynet - he has free access to stable and yard from field and usually tucks himself up by about 6 pm and is still asleep in there at 7 am so it must have been pretty bad in there. interesting as my human instinct was to shut him in safely but he obviously was much happier out when given the choice

Wind has dropped in Surrey although still gusty, just off to see if I can get to the yard or not (back roads get flash flooding). Pony is on livery so not worried if I can't but it will mean a night off if I can't get to work either.

Was wild on coast down south by me for several hours (felt like a life time), but dropped off at about 8am. Several big trees down on national speed limit road, and several parts of the same road flooded which made for a fun drive to work at 6am!

Another one in Shropshire, it was horrendous last night wasn't it?!! I swear the house was shaking. Couldn't sleep at all, just paced round the house all night watching terrible TV & staring out of the window in a paranoid fashion with visions of the stable block taking off - luckily it hasn't done but we've lost a few trees! Dragged all the horses out this morning for enforced freedom and plonked them in fields, they are all now stood at the gate glaring at me and snapping at each other wanting to come back in - can't say I blame them! Stay safe everyone.

Just back from The Boy - he's having a duvet day ! While parked up, our Landy Disco was actually rocking from side to side the wind is so strong. I do hope everyone (and their horses) is ok.

The wind picked up so strongly at about 2am that I really thought I could feel the house moving!! Looked outside the window and the rain was horizontal and the trees were trying to follow!! Local weather station recorded gusts of about 45mph at that time but we are out in the country so I think we had a mini hurricane. It stopped quite abruptly too.
My horses are safe in an old stone built barn, so wasn't worried about them. They have all stayed in today though, my mare hates the wind and feels safer in the yard, and it's safer for me as I don't have to get her too and from the field. Looks like the weekend is going to be ok before it's time to batten down the hatches again for monday.
On a brighter note, I do think we have a bit of extra light on an evening now!!

3 trees around my field have come down! Thankfully they're small and blow outwards rather than in.
I'm terrified about the barn coming down! It's unlikely that the barn falling down would hurt them (as we're not allowed to use it and it's fenced off) but if it comes down, I'm worried about debris!

Drove to Horsatack today and it was hard to keep going in a straight line!

I am over in Ireland and the weather has been just awful. Gale force winds, hailstones, thunder, you name it!!! My girl is in a livery yard and I haven't been able to ride her in two weeks because each time I go over to see her, it's lashing it down!!! I manage to turn her out just to stretch her legs but tbh, she hates bad weather!!! Put her out in the arena this on whilst mucking her out and the heavens opened!!! When I went to bring her in, she nearly ran to the barn!!!! She is not a fan of the wind and rain!!! Just feeling guilty that she is in so much but she doesn't seem bothered at all!!!

We had casualty. My poor box blew over...again!

Cookie promises it wasn't him and that he'd help me put it right :P

Yes its flipping awful in south yorkshire too, decided against riding today so ended up clipping my nf pony instead. The roof of the field shelter didn't half rattle when the wind got up but pony behaved fantastic so she enjoyed some baileys tasty treats has a reward. A small tree has blown down & damaged our fencing but thankfully they are turned out in another field at moment & wont be going back in until my landlord sorts it. All the joys of horses - you never stop worrying about them!!!
