Hey all, I’ll be taking my lovely Sophie to the vets tomorrow, but right now I am on the verge of a melt down fearing the worst 🥹 Sophie is a rescue turning 11 this month. She has always had a delicate tummy but does well on chappie wet food. She had cruiciate surgery in June where on the operating table they found a cancerous mast cell tumour when they shaved her leg this was removed with a large margin. The next month she has terrible diarrhoea even on a bland diet due to the pain killers pro kolin sorted it after around a month and the pain killers were stopped early in vets advice. 2 weeks ago she has an anesthetic and X-ray to check surgery healing all fine but she got diarrhoea again and was sick 2 days later. vet gave me anti sickness pills. We went on holiday a day after this and she was kept on a bland diet I couldn’t get pro kolin whist away so tried a different brand it helped to a certain extent with the diarrhoea issue got home and started pro kolin diarrhoea is cured and she’s back on the chappie. But she was sick twice when were on holiday and she has been sick again this morning she is sicking up boiled chicken chunks the chappie she has digested. I am terrified she has some internal cancer issue 😭 she also wet her bed overnight a couple of days ago as well which she has never done before . Also when she went for the X-ray 2 weeks ago she had lost weight 2 kg she is usually 26kg and was 24kg vet put it down to her being unwell after her cruiciate op but now I’m putting all this history together and am feeling so worried 😟

I had my dog at the vet as her poo was very loose and she was coughing, she had been sick a couple of times.
He gave me antibiotics and frusemide and a gut balancer. She was lots better the week later.
He advised me to get protexin and ass that into her dinner and that has kept her gut healthy.
She didnt have a temp or anything, he put it down to a little bug

Thank you BB x protexin is fab isn’t it it cured my girls diarrhoea but I am just worried about the sickness she wasn’t actually throwing up earlier this year after surgery and worry there is something going on ! Hopefully it’s just a bug

I hope so, my girl is 14 and its so worrying, and we dont walk many places anymore either she just get so tired. So goodness knows where she got it

There is a horrible sickness bug going round here (Wales) and my friend's dog has had the same thing in Surrey.
I rushed my dog in to the vet as an emergency as she was suddenly really quite ill.

Fingers crossed it is a bug and easily sorted, she may have wet the bed simply because she felt so sick and ill.

I can understand why you are worried though given what she has been through.

So I presume the lack of replies means I should expect bad news ? 😭
Hi, don't presume and give up hope, it just maybe, like me, people don't have a clue and any 'experts' might not have read your post. What is her quality of life, so yes it could be bad news, or an infection, or other underlying issues that maybe fixed with medication or dietary change.
Await the vet.

Also this area does not get a lot of traffic as does the club house or tack room.

I hope it's not that. My girl was very ill with a paralysed gut for almost a week. No cause was found and she was 2 years old. She's now nearly 5 and she was thought to have had an idiopathic illeus? Cause?. She made a full recovery with vetinary support and has not looked back. She was at one point thought to have megaosophegus but barium xrays showed she didn't.
We now speculate she ate some drugs, likely cannabis, on the common. She is a scavenger and kids had been leaving drugs in the woods at the time.

Thank you Misst that is very interesting and encouraging. I am sorry your girl had such a bad time but such great news she made a full recovery. My girl’s first throwing up undigested food was the day after an anesthetic for X-rays of her leg. Just seems a weird coincidence 🤔 vets say her last visit would not have influenced her current state 🫤

So i have a rescue who has always had a very sensitive stomach, regular vomiting, acid reflux etc. after a particularly nasty episode i had nothing to lose and tried the yumove digestive supplement. Things settled and i decided to take him off it as i thought it was a coincidence, it clearly wasn’t! He was sick 2 nights in a row, back on it and nothing since 😊

My 13 year old is on dry Chappie full time now as anything else seems to upset his stomach. I tried weaning him back into the stuff I am feeding his daughter but it just made him ill again. There may be something going on internally but he is 13 and he has had a hard paper round, I'm not doing anything invasive.

I think feeding upright is recommended for Mega E dogs. Also query a link to stress.

Hi CC thanks for your input yes the vet did mention a Bailey chair and I’ve been researching. Didn’t know about the stress response interesting all this started the day after anesthetic at the vets 🤔 they have promised me they will try their hardest to do the X-rays without anesthetic if at all possible on Friday 🤞

Hi All so Sophie’s X-ray of her oesophagus last Friday didn’t show up any abnormalities so that’s good. Her bloods were fine apart from slight anemia said nothing to worry about. But since the anesthetic last Friday she’s not been sick (have avoided chicken) and feeding pro kolin and a bland diet since. But she has pee’d her bed every night since 😟 apart from the one time after the last anesthetic for cruiciate X-ray she has never done this in all the time I’ve owned her. So is this a health issue? Or brought on by stress from yet more vet tests last Friday? 🫤 she’s due back at the vets this Thursday

My late collie would wet the bed if I slept her anywhere away from home.

We stayed at my brothers and she wet the bed and did the same staying at a partners house. Totally in her sleep as I was with her at the time and I was awake on both occasions.

So yes, my initial thought would be that this is a stress reaction and I wouldn't be rushing to medicate.

Thank you Jenko that is my first thought too so I’ll just monitor her over the next weeks 👍 last night was only a tiny dribble bless her she’s been though a lots this year including a dental with some teeth removed before the cruciate op

Thank you skinnydipper that’s a good plan with the sample. Sophie is not having any pain relief injections her surgery was 4 months ago. The recent check up was an X-ray of her oesophagus following her being sick which started after an X-ray to check her leg surgery was all healed which it was 😊 the bed wetting started after the oesophagus X-ray and anesthetic. She did have full bloods last week nothing came up just slightly anaemic but they weren’t worried

I asked about Librela because urinary incontinence can be a side effect for some dogs.

Quick update Sophie stopped peeing her bed after 3 days so it must have been stress or a reaction to the anesthetic, she’s doing really well now, my brother popped over yesterday and she was bouncing around he said she looked like a puppy, bless her she’s just turning 11. So glad my beautiful girl is back on form ❤️
