Really worried, am I a tree hugger?

WELLL!! I have a mare who suffers from sweet itch rather badly. This year I turned her out in a Boett rug and trying a new treatment Cavellesse, which seemed to work for awhile, silly me didn't realise I had to keep up the Cavellesse, so she went through 3 rugs and facemask, thinking I was doing her some good, bye letting her be out 24hours 7 days a week, all rugged up top to toe. Had to bring her in August, she's happy now as she can come and go into her stable as she pleases, but this is the worse I've every seen her sweet itch mostly face and legs, so next year she is back on the old regime, which she is happiest with and I won't have a mare with a bald head with sores and before anyone says about putting creams on her, I don't want to die just yet.:(

Sorry but that is utter *******s, horses are not that intelligent, nothing at all to do with feeling safe, he just prefers to be indoors, Simple.

Sorry to hijack your post OP

Wow horses arent intelligent?! How the hell do you think the species survived without us and our stables and rugs??!

You need to do a horse psyc course before making such idiotic statements.

Exactly ^^ EVERYTHING a horse does is to feel safe and continue living.
If a horse is bombproof, you've simply shown it that it's safe in your hands and although cars (or other) are to be respected, they won't jump from the road and eat it. If it thought it's life was genuinely in danger, I'm sure it would still spook or even bolt. A spooky horse hasn't been taught or learnt that a bike isn't a silent, fast, predator, who's sprinting up behind it, or a bag isn't a wolf leaping out a bush ready to attack.

I'm sure the horse we're talking about does prefer it inside, but probably because it feels safer, which makes it enjoy being inside more. I don't think it finds it 'fun' being inside, but rather thinks of it like "I'm inside, nothing will eat me in here, I can relax and think of other things" Where as Ned thinks of it like "I'm inside, trapped, darkness, I can't run and I can't see" so he prefers being out, with a large shelter which he can share with another. Perhaps he also remembers and associates the stable with the trailer, where he had his accident.

I'm not saying you're wrong about your horse liking being inside, but rather...perhaps thinking the wrong reasons why it likes it?

I am worried that I am becoming a tree hugger.

I have this year kept my pony out 24/7 and am trying barefoot.

I had better confess I also wear a lot of pink and purple when riding. I also make my boy wear pink hi viz leg bands when hacking.

Does this mean I am a tree hugger. Do I hang my head in shame or do I get a medal?

Not hijacked so much, living in/out is mentioned, so we discussed that :)

I think bunny hugging is great! Like I said before, I am one and proud...but some, who bring shame to the name of bunny huggers are just vile. Some kill with kindness and some even hurt/kill to prevent others hurting/killing something else!! (Don't agree with hunting, but the sabs make me sick)
