Hi. Wondering if anyone has any ideas. Mare is on 24/7 turnout in the field I rent. I knoticed two days ago one of her rear legs was swollen. So called vet and they thought that it was from a possible knock and to keep eye on it and hose it down and call back in few days if no better. But still swelling has not gone down. There has been no heat and its not bothered her and shes not lame at all. Just wondered other thoughts. Will be calling vet's again tomorrow to arrange a visit. Not sure how to insert photos so you can all see the leg. Thanks in advance.

Thank you very much for that reply :) will express my concerns with vet when I call them tomorrow. Now ive just got a worry head on as to whats caused it and feel bad for the fact the vet thought it was just a knock and said to call them in few days if no better to arrange a call out. But I really do appreciate your reply :) so thank you.

Are we looking at the area of swelling on the outside of the near hind just below the hock? If so I would think there might be a small cut or bruise - swelling is minimal and localised.

If you are confident to bandage I'd use a piece of Animalintex poultice, the piece being big enough to cover the area of swelling. Bandage right down the leg to below the fetlock. Apply a support bandage to the other hind leg, this protects that leg from the extra weight that might be transferred to it.

Have cheaked and I have found no cuts or marks on the leg. Its more noticeable from behind. Being a WB she has fine legs but when you look from behind you can see her left hind is more 'round' than her right thats normal. She has shown no signs of pain and is sound and is fine with me cheaking it and touching it ect. But thank you also for your reply :)
