My 17 year old horse has recently started rearing whilst being lead, I've had her back teeth tack etc checked and I'm at a bit of a loss because she does it being lead in or out of the field, basically she's realised if she doesn't particularly want to do something she just has to rear and everyone backs off! Any help appreciated because I'm completly at a loss 😩😩

What do you do when she rears? Do you pull her/ drop the rope etc? I've found the best way to deal with rearing is to ignore it. We have one youngster at work who will go up when he is over-excited and the worst thing you can do is react to him. The way it goes is, he rears, I ignore him, we carry on; and he is getting better as he gets more mature. He will do it under saddle too and again the best response is to do nothing and pretend it isn't happening, and he is improving massively. It is a bit different though, as his rearing is all about exuberance and over excitement and I'm fully confident that it is something he will (and is already starting to) grow out of. But still, might be worth trying with your mare :)
