So vesey lodge is a fab venue, he ground was good enough. The sj warm up is all weather and the arena was good, the only problem being that it was just dry enough that the hoof prints made stayed and could trip you up when walking it. I actually saw a horse stumble, then it just kept going and rolled (it went down) into the fence it had stumbled about 3 strides in front of. Mind, it hadn't looked brill to begin with so..
We had a tense dressage. But due to timings of things hadn't got him ridden the day before. He was tense. Ended up on 40, third or second from last.
Sj, well, I thought he was ill. He did a beautiful canter, galumphing round (is that a word?) and went on when I asked then came back to me. He's never done such a nice round. Clear too!
I was a bit worried he wasn't going to wake up xc as I currently have him on no feed but as soon as we started over the xc warm up fence he just lit up. He was strong and I felt able to hold him but let him run on. Jumped fabulously, save one brush where I was tentative and he put a stride in, ditches, drops, a scary narrow flowerbox, got a good gallop up the hill at the end and the water was fabulous, down a drop with jets and a bucket 'pouring' water in in the middle and out and over an angled log, many I saw later trotted and took a few strides after the water, he barely paused to jump in and flew through, one stride and out.
Finished with no time faults, one of only around 10 in approx 160-170 people competing to finish on my dressage. So ended up 5th out of 13th, would like to be higher but our dressage needs work.
Love that venue though, its just set up like big event in terms of layout and decoration etc.
And no blown up legs or anything today so even better!
Results were slow though, they have to finish all the dressage before xc starts so that might be why!

Thanks. Yup, our last pre-novice run I think, doing anovice level event on tues (too soon!!) and then will run at CNCJ* for the last few events to hopefully bring his price up and I want to do it as he is so good xc, just flies!

Well done on the placing!

We thought the ground in the SJ was good, considering it is in the lowest corner of a field (the only place it can be), and Nigel moved the course completely between the N and PN to use fresh ground. At least it wasn't deep!

Not sure how the XC time was worked out, but there were too many horses with time pen, it turned it into a speed comp.

All the results were completed and on the website 15 min after the last horse went XC, so pretty good I would say, and there is always a full prizegiving at the end at vesey lodge so most people stay for that.
