Reasonably priced place to reproof rugs West Berks (or cheaper to buy a new one?!)

My lightweights appear to be leaking

I've been trying to research places around West Berkshire to have them re-proofed and a repair on one, but am quickly coming to the conclusion that its cheaper to buy new ones!!!

Does anyone have any recommendations of any places, or indeed any new light weight brands that don't leak?!

I've looked into buying washing machine re-proofer and doing it myself but heard this can ruin your machine? Don't think hubby would be too impressed!

I've always used Wicks in Lambourn for rug washing/re-proofing

Not sure how they compare price wise tho

ETA I bought one of these for Cam recently, not cheap, but very good quality.

Not sure if it's too far but Rose of Rugs in Wokingham by Millwheel tackshop are fairly good, it does add up if you are doing lots of them though!

Thanks guys! Used Wicks in the past, called Claire and she was quite expensive I thought, and my Dad lives in Wokingham so might enquire there and tie in a visit!
I don't think twice about doing the big H/W combos but seriously thinking its just not worth it for standard neck lights - I might as well buy new ones!
Has anyone had any luck with the spray on proofers?

I bought a bottle of detergent and a bottle of waterproofer to wash a coat I wear for mucking out (called 'Storm' and got as a set for about £7 from e.bay). Was a bit sceptical but thought it was worth a try. Worked really well so also used it on my ponies m/w turnout rug and it was fantastic, cleaned well, completely waterproof, worked in the washing machine and was enough for 4 rugs (did friends one too). It wouldn't work if your rugs are too big for the machine though...

you shouldn't use detergent on waterproof rugs as breaks down the builtin water resistantcy of rugs quicker, use nikwax or something specifacly for rugs, the labels do say no detergents, mild soap only.

I always do my own lightweights, and now I have a bigger machine do all the mediums, and the heavies for the smaller two with removable necks. Nikwax is excellent, and very economical.

These are just lights so should fit in, was just worried the nikwax would trash the washing machine?

Wouldn't think so. Usedto run a tack shop, and we sold loads of the stuff, and never had any bad comments. We have had the new machine nearly 4 years now, so has done a lot of rugs! (We have 6)
