Kohls been on the market since just before xmas maybe a little bit longer but there has still been no interest in him, i know due to the current economic climate could be a reason ,but is there anything else? as his add is completely true about him as a horse etc cant post the add as it would be seen as advertising i think.

Bit hard to say, I think, without seeing the advert.

Depends on wording of ad - could be putting people off. Depends on price etc. We won't know without seeing ad.

Go on, post it. Blame me if you get told off! lol

Black Irish Draught cross,16.2/16.3 gelding, rising 6. Kohl is affectionate horse who loves attention. Was vaccinated this month (Feb 2010) so won’t need done for a year and has had his teeth done. He is good to shoe, clip, catch, etc. He lives in or out and travels in either a lorry or trailer. He has done a few common rides both this year and last. He has done a little bit of jumping but not much and would excel in any sphere with a little time put into him. Done his first dressage test before Christmas and got good marks. He hasn’t hunted but would make an excellent hunter. Not a novice ride

Thats the wording in the more up to date add if it helps

i like the look of him, esp first photo.... but... (and i was looking until recently) for me to be interested i'd want a bit more info re haxking out/traffic/clip etc etc, plus looks like he's in a strong bit. so maybe cover off these points???

What's he like to hack? That was the most obvious thing I noticed missing from the ad? And probably quite important to the market you would be aiming him at I guess (Riding club?) And what makes him not a novice ride? Just age, or something more specific? Might be worth mentioning.

Also would maybe edit the video as first few seconds show him spooking!

He is lovely though, knock 3k off and I'll take him off your hands

he was only in the gag for common rides as we didnt know what he was going to be like and could get quite excited, more up to date add covers a wee bit more i fully understand the bit about saying what he is like in traffic and hacking i'll try adding it in before getting them around tomorrow

Yes, I'd be a bit put off by the strong bit.

And take out the negative words in the ad, ie has not hunted before - say instead something positive like 'Could make fab hunter'.

And don't say first dressage test coz it makes people think he's not done much, say 'Good marks in recent dressage test'. When they ring you could then say it was his first test etc.

Would horsemart or somewhere like that have more viewers to the website maybe?

Nice horsey, by the way.

hiya, im in scotland and ive seen your advert! personally i think its pretty good but i think the main photo of his head is a poor choice... he looks like he's holding his head in and, well, it could be a better pic. id try and get a nice ridden pic as the main one to entice people in to look...

i also advertised mine in dec and have only just had the interest this week. ive got 3 booked to come and see him now. good luck. if he's been few inches smaller he might have done me! he's v handsome!

He's not a novice ride as he's not done much as my friend who owns him doesnt have much time due to study commitments he's good to hack in company and alone but hasnt done much recently due to weather and time at the moment

What a lovely head shot of him.

Other than what others said I think some more good clear photos of him would help - a side on confirmation type pic would be good.

Sounds a super sort though.

He's 6, not done much, not very cheap and the pictures and wording are poor IMO.
People who buy hunters want an experienced horse, or one that's at least seen hounds and can jump confidently. Putting that he's been jabbed and doesn't need re doing for a year is a waste of words. If I was you i'd get some decent photos of his conformation, him moving or jumping, and take off the cute ones in his advert!
He's obviously strong, perhaps it would be worth saying how he is hacking/in company? I'd also try a website with a bigger draw, although your location will always be a drawback.
Horses are selling, but they need to be the right price and marketed attractively. Good luck.

First off a disclaimer lol I am in no way an expert with tack ad such like, and I don't mean this in any way to offend you,but.............

Speaking as an objective person viewing his ad my first thoughts are that he's in a lot of tack, and would wonder why?? *think* I spotted a dutch gag, flash, and martingale?? (apologies if that wrong, the pics are quite small and mt eyesight not great so couldn't see them all that well) I must admit I am someone who always uses less rather than more when it comes to tack,so maybe my thoughts aren't what the majority would think, but I don't like the look of it all,and makes me wonder why he requires it all?? He also doesn't look overly happy in his mouth in one of those pics, from what I can see (like I said though pics aren't easy for me to see so could be wrong!!).
Am sure there is a perfectly good reason for you using it all,but maybe put that in ad as it just looks like he might be strong etc.

Would also add why he's not suitable for a novice.Again am sure there is a perfectly valid reason, but if you don't give an explantion people might assume all the wrong things.

Like I said, not meant to sound diapproving, just my honest first thoughts from viewing his ad and trying to put myself in a 'buyer' frame of mind.

I would be put off for with the photos. Ridden in a gag, with a tight flash strap that is pulling the cavesson down would indicate a very strong ride especially on a 5 yo.

Horses are selling but you have to catch buyers on the first picture as there are a lot of horses out there.

Thanks for all your adivce going to try put a new ad together for posting about tomorrow and will let you know how we get on

Also he's up for sale at that price as it is less than what he was bought for two years ago.

too much money for something thats actually done very little. big bridle looks like your going to war!! will put most people off. its a shame because he looks like a nice sort, get some better pics of him doing something, ie jumping and you may get some interest. horses are selling but its a buyers market and there are similar things out there for less money.
good luck

i have some photos of him jumping but they arent the best quality however they may be good enough as they are taken from the videos of him jumping

The first head shot is nice, but the other photos are pretty poor. You need more & better pics of him being ridden - a pic of him standing by the field gate, or tacked up but standing with his ears back is not going to sell him much.

I also think you need to talk more about him as a ride. People aren't going to be sold on the fact he's just had his jabs, but want to know what he's like to hack etc.

i understand what you mean about have we increased his value i'd say slightly as he came as a 4 year old from a riding school where he just used to go on hacks to a home where he had to think for himself and has done more than what he would have if he was still at said RS

i think he is rather overpriced, i think you should drop the price to £2500 and be prepared to take 2k, he has no comp history to speak of and has no mention of flatwork etc and from the pics you make him look to be a handful as he is tacked up to the back teeth, better pics would help ALOT and possibly try one of the more widely used websites such as horsemart, quest etc but good luck

ok, heres what i see as a potential buyer. they photos are poor no flat work or jumping photos. in the video you see him spook and nap then go on to knock a jump down. i know he is young but it doesn't look good when trying to sell. i would take some better photos have at least 1 on the flat one over a jump (reasonable size like 2ft6 if you are selling him as a jumper) 1 confo shot and one headshot. make a video with the best bits and edit out the napping and knocking them down. i'm not saying lie to people but you need to generate interest before you tell them the negative things.

good luck with selling looks a nice enough horse

I really like Kohl and he's totally my kind of horses, but I think he's overpriced for what he currently is. He does have a huge amount of potential but nothings been made of it and therefore you can't really charge extra for it.

He is much better looking in real life and the photo's don't do him justice. The wordings not great either- a lot of words that don't tell you much.

16.3HH black IDx by Blue Champion. 6yrs old. Good looking well put together MW hunter type with 3 excellent paces.

Affection and well mannered. 100% in all ways to clip, shoe, bath, catch, load etc. Lives in or out. Up to date with worming, vacs, teeth etc.

Fabulous hacking alone or in company. Good in traffic. Forward going but sensible ride. Well behaved and willing in school but a little green. Enjoys jumping: scopey and brave but again green.

Has done the Common rides, which he excells at. Make a great hunter/ RC horse.

Suit any competant riders but not suitable for novice as big, green and can be a little strong.

I only saw him ridden a couple of times

I don't think he's worth more than about £2800 at present.

Now, if she'll drop the price to £2000 I'll come and pick him up this afternoon........

Oh thankyou the way you have worded describing him is amazing neither myself of rachel have had to sell a horse before so arent to sure of the wording

I've sold or advertised a couple in my time. I may have to be more creative with toby.......

Don't lie about him - if any of it's not true, don't put it. If he doesn't move straight, or has a rubbish canter you can't put 3 excellent paces. If he's a nappy brat to hack (looked ok though!) you can't put fabulous to hack alone. If he's stroppy or stubborn in the school you can't put 'well-behaved and willing'

If there's anything he's particularly good at highlight it. If he's very patient standing still. If he's got fabulous brake out galloping. If he's bombproof hacking. If he's tolerant and kind if you loose your balance. If he works in a nice outline.

Write a list of his good points and a list of his bad/annoyoing points and make sure you get them all into his advert. PM me if you're stuck.

And ask Jo (with Bob Marley) to take some picture for you - she has a profesional camera and is very good. She'll be happy to help in return for something nice and red for Bob

I would agree with all of this - he does look a lovely sort tho - who I am sure will find a fab home in the next month or so

I think he's a lovely horse but well over priced for current market and what he's done! I would either drop the price and re-do the ad making it more positive, he may be strong but tell people his when they ring and let people judge for themselves as some people may not find him strong or have the skills to work on it. Id re-do the video too, my opinion but I find it a little strange! - If watching a vid of a horse im looking to buy I want to see it being worked in the school in walk, trot, canter and popping a jump to its abilities not endlessly going over a pole. OR if your friend can, hang on until market picks up and put some work into him so he is worth the price shes asking :-) If you look at most ad's on horsemart especially dealers they are far cheaper and people are going to dealers because chances are if they dont get on with the one they saw they will most likely have another that they love and buy! Hope that helps :-)
