Just wondering if anyone would know if there are any reasons why a horse would be shod without any toe clips or quarter clips (if that's the right term?) on shoes (fronts in this case)?

Just to add the horse's feet are fine, normally has clips, but for some reason not this time around?

Any ideas folks?

Thanks :)

Mine had no clip natural balance shoes on for a while to let the hoof grow more naturally. She is now shod with quarter clips infront. Not sure there is much difference between the two but definitely a difference to front toe clips - she tripped a lot with these.

Natural balance shoe more often than not dont have toe clips one of the reasons i think is so it can be palced under the foot better it also disturbs the foot less.
Some do have double clips on though just to add to the confusion.
Double toe clips on a standard shoe is often to give more support again so shoe can be fitted more under the foot

Yes they are natural balance shoes. My farrier uses them. They help keep horses' feet more upright and in a more natural shape. My horse is barefoot on the back and has NB shoes in front and the hoof angles match up. I think it makes them less prone to tripping and/or tendon injuries they can get through having over-long toes.
My horse is 100% sound and has never had any problems with feet, it's just that my farrier prefers them and they have kept my horse sound for 3 years so I am happy with that!

Clipless shoes are not always NB shoes!!!

Clipless shoes that are not NB shoes are often used for showing but some farriers just like to use them. I know one who uses them as par for the course, personally not my thing but there you go.

A clip is worth two nails in terms of keeping shoes on which is whay farriers will often put double clips on a horse that pull its shoes off.

Our mare was diagnosed with djd of the coffin joints, the vet suggested changing her shoes. The farrier made her shoes that had an easier break over by bending the steel for the shoes the wrong way, this meant she had no clips on her front shoes.
