My never wet or muddy girl rolled in what was left of a dead seal on Monday šŸ¤¢ luckily, being a nesh pointy hound she is, most of it was on her coat which is easily washed but I could have honestly killed her. She is normally the one I can rely on to avoid anything like that but apparently being nearly 10yo means she thinks she gets to be extra naughty.

When my small fluffy gremlin has a slightly runny poo, she comes in with šŸ’© all over her fluffy trousers and I have to either carry her by the armpits up to the bathroom or scrub her clean using wet paper towels. When she squeaks to go out during the night, I just know I'm about to be wiping my dogs arse in about 10 minutes time.

My Now partner stayed round my then rented (white walls, cream kitchen) cottage for the first time. He left for work before me the next morning and opened the kitchen door and i just head ' oh dear god' .

Labrador who he now utterly adores and she thinks the world of him.... had projectile shat up my kitchen, it had gone so far up the washing machine it was on the control panel .

He was both impressed and horrified.

I came back from holiday to find about 5 days of dog poo and a few wees on our bed šŸ¤¢

Mavis obviously took real offence to us leaving her but I still blame Mr P for not shutting the door when we went.

Another Mr P special is feeding both dogs far too much turkey one evening, Winnie has a tough belly, Mavis not so much and threw it all up everywhere hence to say his not allowed to feed them now.

Costs. I worked out as a normal client I would have spent around 10-15kAUD just keeping just one of my dogs alive this year...and she's likely to hit the same next year on expected specilists care(bilateral cataract removal surgery is in her future due to diabetes) Thankfully she's insured and I get discounts through work so it ended up a much better situation then that could have been. But in another time in my life, sans insurance, I would have had to euthanise due to finances because she decided to have all of her medical issues in quick succession and in classic vet staff fashion managed to have the worse possible complications and sequela. Costs have risen everywhere and medical care is no exception. It even worries me and I work in the industry.

Secondly the heartbreak just thinking about not having my little buddy is the other massive catch of dogs.
They all at some point are going to break your heart. It's not if, it's when and you just hope it'll be after a long enough time to have fantastic memories to remember them by.
Finding out your in the prime of their life 5 year old dog has a life shortening, limiting and incurable disease due to sheer bad luck drives that one home real real hard.

if your lucky you get 10 to 14 summers to enjoy together with your dog. Make sure to make the most of it.

It's still worth it,of course..but every so often there's a stark reminder moment. I've had a few of those lately šŸ˜…
But given life is short. Yolo. have the dog, enjoy the dog. But insure the dog..especially if your like me and know you'll end up wanting to treat them for anything treatable to the full extent of available medical care.

How on earth did that happen? We regularly leave ours, itā€™s not home but theyā€™re safe and happy enough with the situation.
It was 2015 and we'd only had 3 her months - she was a rescue from Beagle Welfare and we were going on holiday abroad. The timing couldn't have been worse. My partner suggested using the kennel where they had bred his previous beagle bitch from years before, as they obviously knew all about the breed. We visited and they asked if we wanted to break up her week by giving her a bath and a bit of one to one attention, so we jumped at the chance. And so when our holiday came around we dropped her off for a weeks stay at the kennels confident that she would thrive in the care of beagle 'experts'.

When we arrived back off holiday the first thing we did was go and collect her.

"Ah you're the ones with the noisy bitch" we were told.
I said "Really?? Well we've not heard her be noisy, what do you mean noisy?"
"Well I gave her a bath and then left her under the dryer whilst I was chatting in the room next door. She made a right noise, never heard anything like it, we thought she was being murdered!".

Ah well that will be her bottom and genitalia being burnt then..... :(

Since then whenever we have bathed her and tried to dry her with the hairdryer she collapses to the floor if you attempt to go anywhere near her back end, even drying it with the towel she is very suspicious. She's fine back, side, chest, belly. Just bottom, its a no go, even on a cold setting. We obviously don't push it but sometimes the hairdryer is necessary as she has such a thick coat.

We can only draw our own conclusions but I thought at the time how unprofessional it was that a dog that was receiving a blow dry was left totally unsupervised.

I am sure you are using a little media hype here. Regurgitating is vomiting, and heā€™s done it in your bed, on your sofa, and on you, if my memory serves me right. šŸ˜‚

Ahh no, regurgitating (imo) is eating too fast or too much and yacking up straight back up again, being sick is some time later when the contents are no longer identifiable!

The next worst part about your story @Birker2020 is, to me, that they weren't even apologetic about it. It sounds as if they had (have?) a bad practice of leaving dogs alone in a situation when they should've at least been watched, so I wouldn't class what happened to your poor girl a mistake, without an accident just waiting to happen, and sadly it did happen to your girl.

But everyone can make a mistake, no human is perfect. You can leave your dog at the best place in the world, and if you're unlucky, a mistake can still happen. I've been using the same vet clinic since they opened 1991, and they've almost always gotten everything right, but twice, some years apart, they've made mistakes. The 1st time it was that someone forgot to send off a blood sample, so they had to call me the next morning, and ask me to come back in with my bitch to take another blood sample, because the first sample had became unusable.
I must admit that I don't remember exactly what the 2nd mistake was, other than that it involved one of my cats, Aldis, that whatever it was it didn't kill her, and as an apology I came home with this:
ODZS3viA_o.jpg

(My poor indoor light doesn't really show how bright yellow it is, it's supposed to look like a piece of cheese, with the brown patches meant to look like holes in the cheese.)

I of course don't like that the mistakes happened, but I do like how my vet clinic handled those 2 mistakes. They were very apologetic, didn't try to sweep it under a rug, and probably said something about that mistakes like this shouldn't happen, and we're so sorry that the human factor still made it happen.

All the talk about boarding kennels have reminded me about that ages ago there was a Swedish couple were the wife wrote a newspaper column, which often was about something involving their then current pair of Irish Wolfhounds. The only story I still remember is the one were they had been away on a holiday, and came to collect their 2 bitches from a boarding kennel. Their girls came out to greet them, overjoyed to see them, but when the couple started going to their car to go home, their Irish Wolfhounds tried to go back into the boarding kennel!

The owner felt a bit offended, but at the same time, since they hadn't been quite satisfied with the few boarding kennels they had previously tried, she was also happy that they'd found a boarding kennel which she knew their bitches would love to stay at again.

We used the treasurer of a hunt, she has labs and a huge stock fenced field. Thereā€™s a large outdoor run attached to each kennel and she exercised Zak and Bear separately. Iā€™d use her again but I think weā€™ve decided not to go away, basically.

Cecil, yes Cecil (I questioned this several times and reminded OH which dog was which) today (allegedly) did a wee on Berts bed :(
Iā€™m mind blown!
Iā€™m still trying to think of an excuse but wth!

Heā€™s usually pup perfection. Evidently no dog can be trusted
I feel your pain. I felt betrayed when Mitch chewed my trainer. Theyā€™re pink and gorgeous and I could tighten them to my satisfaction. All my other shoes are too big šŸ˜¢
