I've TRIED to resist - but that damn advert is at the top of the index page EVERY time I come online - does "Reassuringly Expensive" sell a service to YOU??

Would YOU assume that a trainer who charges 4 times more than most is 4 times BETTER than everyone else??

And if you do, what IS 4 times better? Is it 4 times faster (so the cost evens out as horse doesn't have to BE there as long) or what??

Where?? I think I have missed it as normal
Some people like to brag about how much things cost as it makes them feel good. I know some one who brought a horse because he was expensive so he must be good and has been nothing but trouble.

It makes me smile as its so tongue in cheek. But yes, he is expensive but after having one youngster sent to him for consolidation training, it was the best money I ever spent. By comparison, another 4 year old I sold as an unbacked 3 year old, was sent to a local respected trainer for 5 weeks at a quarter the price and she came back needing to come to me for a years loan. She is actually a very straight forward horse, but returned very difficult. Would only go backwards, would go into rodeo mode if pushed. She is now absolutely fab.
Unless you are sure , and there are some great people doing the job much cheaper - but with MP, you do get superb horsemanship.

With trainers I think in most circumstances you get what you pay for yes. I say this because I think to be able to charge that price people must be willing to pay it. Built on reputation etc. Not to say someone starting out who is cheap wouldn't be good, but most people don't want to take that chance.

No Im not getting it only see ad for his dvds. With statements like these I always assume I cant afford it and would never click on t find out more.

I got a feeling was it the Volva ad that said the same thing a few years back?

I've just and advert for "the field" - boring!! Maybe they know I can't afford him ;)

............ and now a breast augmentation advert. Hmmmmm

I can't find the ad, but I think I know what you're on about. No it wouldn't make me send my horse there just because it was more expensive - tbh JanetGeorge, if I ever want mine schooling, or have problems I would be contacting you after those videos I've seen of your horses and your website. Mine would definitely be coming to you!

I have heard of people offering to 'help' load horses with pressure halters and say they are not expensive per hour, but will stay all day if they can and come back as many times as it takes, and if they can't do it won't even charge.

Good job they are not Brain Surgeons all I can say.

You do get what you pay for, an average for loading problem with reassuringly expensive MP takes 7 mins.

bet he doesn't charge by the minute though.....

(seriously, 7 minutes? That is just crazy!)

as I remember it was Stella Artois :)

I intend to have MP back my youngster next year, expensive or not it's worth having it done right first time

I have watched many times the people are the most interesting, after 3mins someone will offer help ie food .. another horse... broom.. then they will wait another 3 mins and ask again. So 2 hours is really 40 x 3 mins in the eyes of the horse.

The average attention span of a human is 3 mins the length of a good song.
Horse really have all day.

After 6 mins the horse know he knows,
and when they know he knows they know he know’s they listen and start trying they can then understand with help what ever it is they were having problems with and don’t look back. As they know they can’t get out of it they get into it and he helps them do it and understand.

The charge is for the job done and a genuine result. After the horse has loaded the process is repeated until the horse is happy to load it's self then the owner can have a go and be shown how to consolidate the process until they are both happy and confident to continue.

i get that ad all the time on my hh banner. think its something to do with the type of things you key into your google search. for example if i type in 'bute for horses' next time i click on here the ads are all about horses becoming sound!!

Sorry that is not true, what supporting evidence of that do you have? Glad Air Traffic Controls dont have that or we would have planes falling out the sky every three minutes!!

The average time it takes for someone to think it's not working and want to change something when watching might be better. But most people get bored after 3 mins that is why songs are 3 mins. Sorry not very scientific but watch next time your at a show or may be people just can't stay quiet for 3 mins when they want to help. It just happens!

Would also be interested in where that comes from, my ex-husband was a management trainer and always said it was about 45 minutes, so all his company's courses had a built-in tea break at the appropriate intervals.

Bit concerned about this bit of info as I believe 'better half' is MP's wife, so now not quite so sure about sending my horse to them for backing!!!

If you can't get the horse in the box, how will you get it to Michael?

He has a car and will get to any horse he will even fly around the world for some horses. They are usually the valuable or the sentimentally valuable
ones. lol

My other half is MP and I have been watching him work for 15 years, I am just trying to answer some of the points made. I am BHS AI and still learn something new from watching each time. You do only get one chance to get it right first time with a young horse it is important time for a young horse and I wish you luck were ever you send her.

Sorry, even more worried now!!! As far as I'm concerned you're doing quite a bit of damage ... even more likely to look elsewhere now. You sound very cynical in terms of what people will pay for what they perceive as 'valuable'

Sorry betterhalf I think a lot of HHO would be offended that you think their attention span on their horse is 3 minutes as a lot of people know the biggest tool in your box is time and patience with horses. I have seen the most novice person stand patiently at the bottom of the ramp for over an hour, gently encouraging.

Totally agree here and I guess this is the difference between Kelly Marks RAs, they have the total interest of the horse and owner at heart, yes they have to make a living but they are also in it for the love of the horse and too make the world a better place for both horse and owner, and will take their time and not rip the owner off in the process but get the results at an affordable price, otherwise they make their talents only available to the wealthy and are not in it for the good of the horse.

Time and patience are only part of the ingredience, I don't want to sound cynical but have heard so many sad stories even after well meant help and £1000's of pound spent. It makes MP sound cheep to get the job done well to start with. I would love to get some apprenticeship going so I could make the price cheaper as MP can only do so much.

There ARE plenty of sad stories - however much money is spent. But however good a job, I don't think anyone could consider over £600 a week for backing/schooling a horse to be 'cheap'!

It sounds to me Better Half as though you are trying to 'procure' business for your husband on an open forum? advertising I would say wouldn't you?

Thanks for the feedback, I have changed it.

For my money it would be the "Reassuringly" down to earth Janet George every time, no hype just a damned good job every time as evidenced by the very many happy clients she has on this forum....and no I am not her wife lol
