Hi Guys
As per title really.. I could do with some advice /Tips for a friend of mine. We were out today doing a farm ride and her young horse totally mis judges a fence and fell over getting caugt on it . ( all fine no injuries)
When she was back to her feet she took it to the next smaller fence to re gain some confidence and the horse wouldnt jump walk or even be led over the fence by another horse. We gave up for today not wanting to make to much of an issue. It certainly cant be good for the horse to just keep stopping. So what do we do!! Advise needed please. Were back out next weekend to another venue with smaller more inviting fences at the begining and i could do with a few tricks up my sleeve to help her if possible

thanks

I would go to the smallest fence you can find (and i mean like, a twig on the ground) and MAKE him go over it. then hugeeee pats, carrots etc.

The only way is to make him do it. Have you tried poles in the school since?

Play with poles on the ground and gradually build up to small show jumps. Once happily popping show jumps then move onto tiny xc jumps. Lots of praise when she does well.
Maybe take a confident horse with you incase you need a lead.
Lots of time, patience and praise needed

We've had our fair share of xc fails very scary for both!! Ours was doing the jumping out of water he refuse the small little step out whist I'll was sorting myself out he decide to jump the biggest step out didnt mange it as we were too close and he then fell nearly on top of me he went on his side and got up shaking but ok thank god mange to carry on after checking him and got a fab photo after it too!! We havnt been back to do the water jump yet and its been a long time since it!! I do go though any big puddles we have round the farm that's seems to help. We had to go right back to useing poles then xc poles etc now hes jumping great its more me then him lacking confiendence!! Any problems I has with him now I'll get my friend to take lead as i truely trustd her plus she kicks my bum too!! Always finish on a poistive note and big cuddies for horse! We has had a bad fall in the school too and again we went right back to the beginging to regain both our confience!!
