Today I had a jumping lesson, Of course we were doing tight turns as my instructor seems obsessed with them!!

So off we went, they were only small about 60 cms but I still managed to fall off when he refused the warm up jump!!! Aghhhh!!! Still I got back on which is a break through and carried on till the end.

However same old story of him rushing his fences and really pulling so a nightmare really. However, I did ask if I could do one jump and then the other bars be on the floor so I could concentrate with rebuilding my fragile confidence and controlling his speed. Then for the last round got one of the more experienced girls who competes to do it with him, she almost fell off as he rushed then refused!! But she just pushed him on and off they went flying round the course. I asked how she found him and she said he was strong and wouldn't stop pulling. Of course then we try to slow him down and he refuses the jump. So am now resigned to changing tack, am going try a figure eight nose band to see if this helps, and maybe a stronger bit but nothing, but not sure about this!!

Hope you're not too sore from your fall. Well done for getting back on and trying hard with him.
Try the noseband first and if that doesn't help much then talk to an experienced person about bits and decide where to go from there. I hope you get him sorted soon :)

The title of your post made me laugh. Hope you're ok and not too stiff. Good luck with finding the way to keep him going forward without him going at it like a bull in a china shop.

Its hard work as I'm just not a confident enough rider, but I do want to get there. Sometimes it feels like I am on a never ending circle and never actually getting anywhere!!! At least I got back on today and didn't finish the lesson crying in the corner like a big baby like last time!

Sorry to be 'pluggy' but try an RS-tor safety aid - allowed in affiliated SJ comps and genuinely good for developing confidence over bigger fences - http://www.rstor.co.uk. Good luck!

I ordered one online on Sunday and am just waiting for it to arrive!!!! Unfortuntely I didn't have it today as think it would have helped with confidence. I hope to have a better update next time I jump, like wow it went really well with my new noseband and rs-tor!!!!
