It might be trial and error as most should be fine for what you need as long as they fit properly! Quite a few like the easyboot glove as they come in a wide fit for TB hooves!
I have the Old Mac G2's as the I found the easyboots a pain to get on a fidgety horse
Agree that fit is the key, and what works for one may not work for another (or indeed what works in front may not work in back, if you feel you need to boot behind). The Hoofbootique are great for advice and offer a rental service, though it's not cheap.
In my pony's case, I'd be happy doing anything in his Renegades!
I'd resign yourself to needing to try different types. Keep an eye on ebay and buy second hand, then you can usually sell on without a big loss. I started with cavallos (fine if you just want to plod about) and we now have epics (I actually just typed we now have renegades but that was just a bizarre fantasy thing cos we don't!). My mare doesn't really need them or we would have renegades
You're going to have to try various types. Also her feet now and her feet in 6 months of barefoot trimming will be totally different shape and possible size too, so the boots that fit this week may be useless in 6 months.
Boots that come high over the hoof (cavallo, Boa) can rub badly on the pastern of a thin skinned horse; that said, I would probably go for cavallos with wraps on a newly barefoot horse as they are cheap! also you can get them second-hand easily on ebay
For long term use Renegades or any of the Easyboots I would recommend
Hi, interested to hear more about the renegade boots as currently using cavello boots and have concerns that they may be putting pressure on his heel bulbs as heels are a bit collapsed and over run, so am looking for an alternative, which will be suitable to do some light hunting in..
I use Cavallos for my mare and have just got my boy fitted to some Cavallos too (although we have put some foam inserts in to support his soles and frogs).
We've been on 4+ hour hacks through all terrains in my mares Cavallos including crossing streams and boggy areas. I've also popped the odd log out on a hack and they've stayed put.
I don't think it matters too much which brand of boot you go for more of which one fit your horse's feet best. Get his feet measured up and talk so Horse and More or someone that sells various boots and see what they advise.
