Recomendations, first bit

I have a warmblood baby, who I will be bitting and getting lunged etc this coming year! (gets excited!!) so have asked santa (aka hubby!) for a nice new bridle for him! But am thinking on what bit to start him in, I have a rubber straight bar for simple mouthing on, but once working what bit do you all start your youngsters in? I don't want the nutcracker of a single joint, and don't really want loose ring.

I tend to use a french linked fulmer to help with early steering... and the french link minimises the pressure on the tongue and avoids the bar pressure of a straight bit...

I usually use a Fulmer with keepers and a drop noseband. It's a lovely quiet bit that really helps the horse to accept the bit without fussing. The drop noseband is loose enough to allow the horse to relax its jaw but tight enough to prevent him opening his mouth to evade the contact. The reasoning behind using the drop is to actually prevent the horse from learning that it can open its mouth.
