I need help!

I have a very frustraiting day today, was supposed to take my youngster to his first dressage class. A nice quiet day was planned, transport booked as he doesnt fit in my old bedford

But unfortunately it all went wrong.

He has always been a little sticky going on as he hasnt done it enough yet, but he was fairly good and went up the ramp in a few mins. Unfortuneatly, he didnt feel like he had enough space to turn around, paniced and took himself off. Needless to say he wouldnt go back on.

I dont think this box was big enough either, can someone recommend a way of travelling, either box or trailer?

I have found (and lost) the details of a coachbuilder that makes boxy type trailers, does anyone know them?

Someone else must have solved a simular problem?

Yeah, the monkey doesnt seem to stop growing. I think he is more 18.2 now. I know he doesnt look big with Gary riding him, but he is about 6ft 5 lol.

My Clydesdales ride in the Cattle wagon! My husband fixed up some Clyde sized partitions.

If only 1 has to go I have an Ifor, the one designed for 2 enormous horses.

Im having similar problems with my 18.2hh Shire x. He just stands at the bottom of the ramp and refuses to budge. I respect the fact that his feet take size 8.5" shoes and have I have learned to dance like Michael Jackson

Have a lady coming out next week to do a 'Richard Maxwell' on him.

The Wessex Pegasus will take 2x18.2hh horses and I can highly recommend them.

Hi - 18'2 - WOW! He looks amazing though!

I have just bought an Ifor Williams 510 to travel my one 17'3 ID horse. I would debate whether this was actually big enough to travel 2 x 17'2 horses as I am taking out the partitioning next time we travel and will have him with a single breast bar across the front.

I followed OH driving him to show on our first outing and my boy kept falling down on one leg as he was in on half of trailer and I since learnt that he couldn't 'brace' his legs properly to deal with the corners etc. Advice has now been to take all partitioning out and travel with whole space. I would not think this 510 would not cope well with an 18'2. However, whilst researching trailers I did see the new model - I think it is a 511? Looked much higher inside - might tbe worth checking out if there is much of a difference.

NB. Have been advised to travel with Poll Guard after hearing some horrible stories. Am going to invest immediately.

Good luck!

I would recommend a poll guard for travelling any sized horse. I have seen an horrific injury when a horse reared up.

My horse is 16.3 and would not put him in anything smaller than a 511 trailer.

My horse prefers trailers to lorries, but I prefer lorries as they are more stable. I have to go with what he prefers and will load into.

The Stud I worked at had a removal lorry converted to a horse box they had an 18.1 ID x TB. they still have it it I think, but I have seen a few converted in to horse boxes?

Hehe...we do sound very simular! I had to do a jig for a bit to get out of the way, not from large feet.. just a large everything. He really didnt want to go back in bless him

Im not sure about a trailer at all as a little worried about stability, but dont have megabucks to build my own lorry.

How old is your boy? im worried mine will finish on 19 hands

my friends horse (shirexTb) is off the measuring stick !!!!
so i cant tell you exactly how big he is.
but we borrowed the largest equitrek trailer to see if he'd fit not only did he fit but there wouldve been room for a travel companion !!
why not try one of those for size ?

My little man has just turned 6 and he still has another couple of years to develop. We are working on our dressage, but his bum doesnt have the muscle yet to do more than prelim. His mother was 19hh - dont know much about the father, I heard he left the area after maintenance payments were mentioned

Im hoping to take him to his first dressage competition (with me) in 4 weeks time, trusting he will be loading by then, otherwise its a 25m hack

Sorted !

my 17.2 goes in an equitrek L with loads of room to spare. she used to panic at going up a lorry ramp and making the turn but she loads herself in the trailer now.

Your horse is gorgeous
