Hi,
Am getting sorted for winter, and hoping to take advantage of out of season prices too! I would like to get my mare a new stable rug. She has a lightweight one which fits her well (a jhl), but her middleweight doesn't fit well at all! She has a derby house which just slips right over on her back, and a masta one with neck which makes her look like she is wearing a mini skirt as it is so short!
Can anyone recommend a good medium weight stable rug (nothing over 300gsm as she runs really warm), idealy with attachable neck too. Is it worth getting smarter brands in stable rugs? Because they dont have to keep the rain off I'm not sure how much benefit you would get from more expensive makes?
Thanks for any help!

Expensive rugs generally fit better. I buy horseware. they are cut to fit the horses shoulders, they are deeper too. My Father-in-law very kindly bought my horse a rug from his local country store. It really is a rubbish fit. It gapes open at her shoulder and it is not deep enough.

it is the fit that would concern me the most tbh as she has several 'spare' rugs I never use that fit terribly!! She has good sturdy shoulders so some cheapy rugs fit her really badly. That said, her derby house lightweight turn out fits brilliantly! She has the horseware sweetitch hoody which does fit her really nicely (lovely and deep too which I def want for a winter stable rug), but is a bit gapey at the neck - the fastening almost seems a little far down her chest, which makes it pull a bit. Generally the fit is nice though. Stupid question, but do you know what the dif is between rambo and rhino? IS the fit the same or are they cut differently? I was suprised how well the jhl fitted as well as I've always thought of it as a bit of a cheap make. Weatherbeta and masta are def off the list though as they really don't fit her well!

good to hear more positive about the jhl, I do like her lightweight, but wasn't sure if it was a fluke as their prices seem very reasnoble!

I can recommend the Mark Todd mw, you can get a neck for it as well. I know the JHL ones are very similar but not sure if they have necks. I have just kitted mine out with Mk and JHL rugs as i like the fit and they are adjustable round the front. And they wont break the bank either. :)

I must admit that I do find the mt v v similar to the jhl, surely they must be the same manufactuer? On equestrian clearence sometimes if you order jhl then you get mark todd - exactly the same product and same description.
I def would like one with a detachable neck though so will check out that I can get one to fit the rug I get.

I bought a Rhino one for B and love it - fits just right and looks so snug :D can also get detachable necks for it, and it has loops for liners in case it gets very cold :)

They are from the same manufactuer, just cheaper versions of the same rug. I only got the Mk one's as they didnt have any JHL stable rugs when i went shopping, they where all in the sale at the time so i can complain! :D
