As title.

I have a flea problem. Just cost me 110 pounds at the vet as one of my dog's has a real problem with her skin with her itching/scratching. She has been given steroids to help her skin inflamation.

I have tried house spray, flea bombs and the stuff that dries fleas out. Also treated dogs and cats with appropriate spot on treatments. I also have used home made flea traps overnight, to no avail.

I have a Dyson and a Henry.

The Dyson doesn't pick up that well and the Henry is such hard work, especially in this hot weather.

I do use a flea comb every day and only get 2 or 3 fleas (tiny) off of them every day. I do realise that is only the tip of the iceberg.

Any suggestions welcomed.

Thanks in advance for replies.

Buckets of wine for good ideas.

Have you treated the garden?

Do any cats visit?

When was the Dyson last serviced as mine sucks so hard it lifts the carpet!

I will google the hoover we use at work (vet hospital) its a good one, we have a henry hoover but only for the tiled floors we use the upright one and its very powerful (I know because I hoover my own dogs hair up after they have been lying in reception) I have a dyson at home and Im not a huge fan I have to say (maybe mine needs servicing)

A tip my mam always gives people in her practice is never put flea collars on necks lol (but put them in the hoover it's self to kill any fleas you suck up)
Boil wash all bedding and another tip, the one time I did have a flea issue years ago, I frontlined a teddybear, soaked it, trod in the rooms to set of a vibration to get the little scanks to jump around and they all jumped on the teddy (saved me and dogs being bitten) I did it in each room and closed the room off and sprayed the room with household stuff (nuvan top) then, so obs years ago lol.

I would also recommend frontline spray for the animals (buy a bottle) and skip the spot ons if you are struggling.

I will go google the works hoover lol

I thinks its this

What about steaming the carpets??
Im clean Frick and every other Saturday I hoover with dyson, wash carpet with vax and steam carpet with Mop x5... Never had any issues!

Sebo - mine is 7yrs old and still works better than my dyson animal did after 6 months (also had 2 motors replaced in under 3yrs). I was initially resistant to a bagged cleaner, but I only need to change the bag approx every 2-3 months so no biggy.

Also is the spot on you use the combo one? The combo treats the environment whereas the normal frontline does not. We have 2 dogs, 3 cats and no problems provided we use the combo.

Also if you have any old birds nests in roof spaces or near open windows remove them as they are full of pests such as fleas and woodworm beetle!

Dyson Animal

Me too - the secret with Dysons is to regularly wash the filter - the circular foam thingey which in the Animal is located at the top of the jug which collects all the dust and hair. I wash mine - the actual sponge and the filter itself - very frequently because of my 2 hairy Mal crosses. Many people forget to do this, and then wonder why their Dyson does not pick up. You need to take it apart as well - take the brushes out, clean out the side brushes, and check the pipe is not blocked between the pick up brushes and the jug.

Thank you for all your suggestions. Have cured (I hope) with regular hoovering and the stuff that cries out fleAs plus steam cleaning.

I have gone through a samsung hoover and a vax in the last 3 years and it was an actual work out for me trying to get the damn thinks to pick up anything, especially dog hair even with regular emptying and cleaning of filters etc. So decided to buy another one, i wanted a dyson but husband being a tight farmer wasnt having any of it! So a week later he buys a stihl industrial hoover. basically same look of a henry, £99 and a pack of 5 bags for it are £9. I have to say and swollow my pride but it is fantastic! lifts the carpet up its that strong and works on tiles, carpets, sofa anything. And you know with stihl they are strong and going to last.

Another vote for miele cat and dog, it really is brilliant, and they last forever, i have one and its really good at getting the hair up from carpet, also comes wuth a different head for tiles etc, a lady i work for has had hers for 17 years and its still going strong! :)
