I am currently with Pet Plan whose prices are going up quite a lot every year so I am looking to move insurance company this year.

I have had a quote from NFU this morning and it was £540 for the year!! I am only insuring horse for £1500, who is 8, cover for vets, personal accident, third party liability. Currently paying £346 with Pet Plan for same cover as quoted by NFU. I have made a previous claim under vet cover for treatment to his stifles. NFU say this is why their quote is so high because of his previous treatment. The condition is cleared now. So not sure why this affects the quote? I would have though it would be just an exclusion?

Can anyone recommend a good insurance company that will pay out when claims are made without any hassle (thinking of the ? & ? Company that everyone knows doesn't pay out!!) and are good to deal with, and with reasonable prices?

I would give NFU another ring - maybe a different office - as this quote does seem rather high. Like you I would just have expected an exclusion.

Are you sure they are not also quoting for Loss of Use as this does load the premium?

I am with NFU and have 7 horses insured at a cost of around £3k.

Hi hun, I must say both of my boys are about that much with NFU but I know they will pay out if needed. After the claims with Lotto they wanted £750 per year!! So am dreading how much Henry will cost me this year after the claims! However just thinking about it H is insured for 5.5k and Max 5k plus I have very expensive saddles on both and also about £1200 cover on each for rugs and stuff.

Have you tried SEIB? they seem to be good also. I think the others are stay well clear.

How is the boy doing???

We were recommended SEIB (South Essex Insurance Bureau) and they have been brilliant with Big Ginger Lad. Paid for MRI, IRAP, Tildren etc and always paid up promptly. I would highly recommend them to anyone. Naughty Grey Boy has never had a claim (touch wood). Not bad premiums either. I think we pay about £600 per boy pa. Didn't go up after Ginger's mega claim either.

Thank you all for your replies. I may give NFU main office a call as this was my local office. I will try SEIB and AMIns. Will try KBIS also. :D

Lochpearl. He is doing fab at mo! Back riding and had a sneaky canter yesterday and all good! He had Equine Craniosacral Treatment today and it was WOW!!! Can't believe how improved he was, will have to PM you full details tomorrow!! xx

SEIB here too! Have always paid out. Had several incidents over the 8 years I have used them. We've accrued a few exclusions, but the insurance has been about the same. Currently about £320 per year for all you stated. He is 10 years old.

Julie Andrews Horse Insurance Services - way way cheaper than nfu, pet plan etc and paid out really quickly on all 3 of my claims...

NFU have probably doubled your vet premium for 12 months. If you don't claim within that time they will reduce the premium to half.

All insurance companies are putting their prices up! Global economy is not what it was anymore!

i'm with nfu i paid £286 last november for my renewel never had to claim but my ex boss was also with them he said the ywere just fantastic when he made a claim
