For large broad horses, which Im assuming your boy is, you need a deep rug too, so I would recommend the Horseware range.
I have Rambo's, which are the best, Rhino's and Amigo's, and they have never let me down.
Beau lived out all last winter in his Rambo Plus HW turnout, and was fine!
I get my rugs from robinsons and ebay, on cold nights they get a stable rug below their turnout rugs, but we are up near the mountains and near the sea so its cold a fair bit of the time.
Good days they have just turnout rugs on.
Depends how protective you are, im just over protective as im sure they dont need a rug yet, none are clipped
Ours are out 24/7 all year round, with just a field shelter in the corner of the field they can use. I have found Weatherbeeta Taka rugs are great, last for years and seem to take quite a bit of bashing (from other ponies teeth!
Highly recommend Fal Pro's, they are hard wearing, fit well don't leak and seem to go on for years. They are pricey though. I also like the new Mark Todd range of rugs, bought the heavyweight combp last year and am really immpressed! Slightly cheaper than Fals
the horseware are brill i had my last rambo for 15yrs and only hadto buy new asd it wouldn;t fit my new boy so sold it on, it only had one strap repair in all that time and never leaked.
also agree the FAL rugs are good. Not so sure about the weatherbeta though as i've had quite bad experiences with them.
I do like all the Horseware range but I have just purchased 2 rugs from Premier Equine and they are fab! My chap is quite deep and they fit him really nicely!
added bonus is they arent as expensive as the Horseware ones.
I was disappointed with my Rambo (the fastenings on the high neck cover broke within days and were fiddly in any event). However, the Premier Equine International rug (heavyweight with detachable neck) I bought two years ago (ie, this will be the third winter) has been so fantastic that I will definitely be buying another one for our latest addition! It has never leaked, has no tears, and has been amazing value for money! Highly recommended!
Dingle12 - just checked out the seller's ebay shop and the rugs look great - ditto her feedback! Have you purchased one of these rugs yourself (or has anyone else for that matter)?
i work for her as her groom, rugs are really nice had loads of positive feedback and all of her horses wear them. She is just finding it hard to get her name out there with it been a new rug she designed it. PM if you have any questions
