My old 600d no-fill Gallop combo TO has finally and comprehensively Given Up. It's stood up to three years' wear on a pony who doesn't so much roll as wallow, so it doesn't owe me anything.

I will probably go up to 50g fill for the replacement as in general that seems to be more reliably waterproof. I really like the newer 1200d Gallop Xtras, but they don't do 50g with an integrated neck.

So can anyone bored and sofa-bound by the rain recommend me a 50g, 1200d, integrated neck TO for under £70?

If this is an impossible ask I will probably go for a Gallop + detachable neck and accept the loss of the bottom three inches of pony's mane....

Equitheme are brilliant budget rugs, 1200d and last well. I have a 50g without a neck so you might find one if you search.

I have started buying mine 0g fill rugs with detachable necks and then a 50g amigo liner. Gives more options for milder weather and can all go in the washing machine.

I bought a gallop 50g rug with detachable neck. I had velcro added to stop the neck from lifting up. Still turned out cheaper than most rugs!!
Ah that's funny, I had just been thinking earlier about adding a couple of slots and some velcro tabs to hold the neck down! Our local saddler could probably do that for about a tenner.

My problem is that "normal" neck rugs rub out the bottom of my horse's mane.....but it is only the bottom three inches over his withers so perhaps I just need to deal with it.

I really like Shires rugs - nice and deep in the body and don't rub at the shoulder. If you do a search on line you can probably find one for under £70.

Me too, we have a very reliable 50g Shires that still does a good job at keeping water out. The Highlander Plus is a 1200d - I can't find any for less than £90, which is a bit more than I wanted to spend but definitely worth considering. Maybe I can find a discount code somewhere.

My 50g Shires was great, my 50g Amigo is even better! Detached neck, rings to attach a liner to, fits very well and is very waterproof. So either are good options.

I really rate the Shires typhoon (I think that's what they're called) rugs. I've got their waterproof fly rug and 100g turnout combo and they're really good quality for the money (£40-50)

Ok, so as the overwhelming consensus seems to be Shires, I had a glass of wine, found a 10% off code, and bought a Highlander Plus 50g (1200d) combo for £81.

Then I had a beer and thought some more about the Grease Monster and bought a Snuggy Hoods rug liner for £31.

You are all terrible enablers and very helpful people. Thank you!

P.S. Still keeping Swish in mind if I need a chunkier liner at any point. And I did try Equitheme but they seem to be quite hard to come by from UK sites, and I worry about falling foul of extra tax etc buying from European sites.
