Darcy (4yo) got hold of my coat yesterday and ripped the arm to shreds

Therefore I need a new coat (winter weight) but can't decide what to go for! I am very tempted by the Musto Combination jacket apart from the price (although I'm thinking at this time of year I may be able to grab a bargain). I need something dark coloured, warm, waterproof, and it has to have a storm flap bit over the zip, with poppers and NOT velcro (velcro drives me crazy!)
Any suggestions?

Ok so far my list is:
Musto Combination
Musto Snug
Dublin Blouson (my recently deceased coat was a Dublin one and lasted me for years)
Mountain Horse Lawrence
BUT I'm still not sure about the blouson type ones - does the rain soak through the zip? Any experiences of these and any other recommendations welcomed!

musto musto musto!! Everyone used to call me mrs musto at college cos that was all I ever wore. LOL!! However, all the stuff I wore at college 6 years ago is still in working order, and I still use all of it every day. Well worth the expense.

All of you who have said Musto without specifying - Combination or Snug??!
Bearing in mind this coat will come to work with me too (grooming!)
I feel a lot of money is about to leave my bank account!!

I love the mountain horse - but struggle with the Blousons as I find they ride up and pull my sweater and shirts up with it leaving my back exposed and cold. I have both the MH Lawrence and the Musto Snug and I prefer the Lawrence of teh two - better design, and have never had water th rough the zip. But my favourite of all coats is my Mountain Horse Grace Jacket, totally waterproof, great to ride in - seriously warm when it's cold but cool when its warm. Very stylish and the Zip is covered.

I am going to go against everybody else and say that I hated my musto combination jacket! I have had other musto's that I found really warm & cosy, but the combination jacket (even with the lining in it) was never a really warm jacket. Yes, ok so you can use it in summer too but I am a wimp & when it is really cold I like to be warm without having to put on 4 other musto fleeces under my combination jacket. I bought a fantastic toggi jacket 5 years ago with a thick, cosy zip in, zip out inner layer (combination jacket style) and I have lived in this jacket. It cost about the same as the combination but is 100% better IMO. My musto combination jacket stays in the cupboard whereas the toggi jacket comes out winter after winter

It really depends what you are looking for eg warmth v. all year jacket but I would look at others before handing over your hard earned cash!

I've got a musto snug! Had it about 6/7 years now, its still wearing well, very comfortable and I like the longer length. If you feel the cold, maybe its not thick enough on its own? I like it because I get hot once I'm at the yard and I can always put another fleece underneath.

i have a musto snug. they are the oldest and the best £100 very well spent. have had mountain horse grace and its rubbish infact not keen on the mountain horse range really.
my sister has th musto paddock jacket and has worn it all winter. she is size 10 but i made her get a 12 so she had room. its brilliant. waterproof, windproof and breathable. hers is sark gray and black.
she had a major opperation in june and suffers from arthuritis now which is sad at the age of 23 but she relies on her paddock jacket every day.

Hmm interesting opinions, I am a very, very cold person but once I get mucking out I get quite warm, so I usually have a gilet on underneath my winter weight coat anyway so I can gradually peel off the layers. Not entirely sure though that I'd either want to be faffing around with un-zipping the Musto Combination, or having to end up with two gilets and a coat on! The Snug with a gilet on underneath I could cope with though, although now I'm worried about it riding up at the back?!

Ah such hard decisions!!

I have a Snug (but its the blouson one) which was bought via work for when I go onto the range, however it seems to have accidentally ended up as my riding/mucking out coat and I love it - its my second, the first lasted about 10 years and two zips. Rain doesnt soak in through the zip (or anywhere else), I like the cuffs because I have a weird thing about hard cuffs next to my hands, so the nice soft close fitting ones are ace. It doesnt ride up, and the xs sized one has ample room for me to even fir my puffa waistcoat underneath. And it washes and tumble dries as good as new.
