I have a Harry Hall one at the moment

because it is light weight and comfy. However it is bogging now. I have sweated litres into it and it stinks.

What alternatives are there which you like in the same price range (under £60 ) I'm open minded about style but I'm not looking for another skull cap as I have a nice Charles Owen.

Oh, and any tips for keeping the next one nicer. My brother bought me a lovely merino snood for Christmas and for winter my plan is to wear that underneath and wash it so hat stays slightly better but what about summer? (don't worry, snood is very thin and doesn't affect fit of my hat :) )

For every day use, I have a Charles Owen young riders hat (I an not a young rider :D ).
Its pretty lightweight, looks tidy & Is a reasonable price too :).

It gets a scrub every so often with baby shampoo & nail brush on the inside & left in the airing cupboard overnight - comes up well & doesn't 'ming'

I have the same hat and love it. You can buy spray for keeping the hat clean and fresh: it functions a bit like odour-eater spray to stop sweaty feet making shoes smelly from what I understand. Shires do well priced hats, but as a round-headed person who suits HH, I can't get into their oval shape at all despite its value for money and quality for the price.

If you want to reduce sweating then you need a vented hat. I couldn't find any in the under £40 price range like that didn't look like over-priced bike helmets you'd begrudge paying £10 for. I wanted a Kitemarked one, which pushes the price up usually.

I'll have to look after the next one better so it doesn't get so cross. Why don't they make the blooming things with washable linings hey?

you can get ones with removable padding to wash them, cant remember which brand....maybe champion. In australia we always used to wear baseball caps under our hats to avoid them stinking and to stop us revealing our sweaty hat hair!!

I absolutely love my Troxel Spirit - it does, in the words of Vixen Van Debz, look like an "overpriced bike helmet" but it is under £40 and is really great for everyday wear, my head doesn't sweat in it! It also has an inner lining that provide more or less padding.
It also performed fantastically in safety tests.

I love my decathlon £9 hat :D lightweight and glossy black and I like it. I used to come out so sweaty after riding people asked me if I took a shower, well, no more! hooray.

I've not long had the Charles Owen YR8 (again not a young rider!), I got mine for £50 in the sale at the local tack shop (last one and my size - whoop!) but think you can get them around the £60 mark.

Quite a smart hat and ventilated, it even has some silver technology thing to stop your head stinking....magical!
