Recommend me a good 1st time BE90 in/near Glos

Broadway is a nice event, the sj is usually small, the xc there is a trakehner and a couple of combinations but all ride well.

Larkhill and Swalcliffe are very nice for a first time run - also been told Calmsden is nice, not sure how far from you and not been ourselves. Look forward to you first report :)

This one sounds good as I have missd Swalcliffe and Larkhill. :( THere are lots of threads at the moment about the ground, are Broadway and West Wilts generally ok from that perspective? I have bene to WestWilts for unaffiliated (but that was in the AUtumn last year when the ground was perfect) and it is really nice so this one and broadway sound good.

Erm, not sure if i'm at the sort of level to provide a report NR99, but thanks for the nice thought!!

Aston le Walls will ensure good going and it's a lovely track, Ascot under Wychwood is really nice too.

The ground at Broadway last October was shockingly bad. No prep work anywhere for all disciplines. Dressage warm up was rutted, barely any grass cover in the SJ warm up and nothing put down on the landings XC which is a shame as it's a dinky course for all levels.

West Wilts ground will be good, they always have very good grass cover and will aerate also. The showjumping will be in their huge outdoor arena on a good surface.

Ummm Broadway in April/May is nice, Stonar in June is very nice and perfect first time event, Ascott-under-wychwood is nice, Calmsden is nice but wouldn't say its a first time event. Homme House is very nice... Sorry these are ramblings from my head - trying not to think about BE as not got the moneys at the mo!!

I did the PC 90 class at Calmsden today and have course pics (will send to the FB group later) if you're not sure. I'd say it's a nice course but up to height and a few questions, ground pretty good but very hilly.

My first 90 hunter trial was West Wilts last autumn, great going, perfect first 90 course (was round the same course as the BE90 a couple of weeks prior). I'd perhaps try to get there? Good luck x

Loving all the help, thanks u guys!!:D :D:D
West Wilts def sounding like a winner with loads of ppl championing it.
Am doing Ascott under Wychwood 80(T) next weekend (will be our second 80 and the first was fab) so obv gonna take a really good look at the 90 (after I have ridden round the 80 !!) as it would be ace to go from 80 to 90 at the same place having had the chance to look at it in advance .... altho I mustn't forget that we've gotta get round the 80 clear first!!!
Will check out Calmsden pics in a bit (is that on unaff xc pics grp on FB?) but BE event is not till Oct so I'll know more what we are capable of by then hopefully!
Thankies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have just shared them on the unaff xc photos group- as it was just a PC event. I think also if you type into google 'calmsden xc course' there is a link to some proper photos on their website. :)

West Wilts is nice and a lovely first time BE90. Another vote for Homme House and another one not a million miles away is Sapey, and Urchinwood Manor, although totally lacking in atmosphere, is a lovely first time BE90.
