all winter my pony's feet hve been fab, no cracks or chips. in the summer they dry out. he already has biotin, so i'm looking for a product to put on his hooves now, before they start to dry out. i hve been using pine tar about every 3 days. any suggestions of a good product to try much appreciated. thx!

We used to use Kevin Bacon hoof treatment however we changed 12 months ago to Aqueous Cream. We brush it on the hoof & sole & our horses' feet are marvelous. It's also so much cheaper than the regular hoof oils. We buy ours from the company that took over the Woolworth's stores, it's 99p for a 500ml jar there so very cheap but it really does a great job. Loads on our yard have changed onto it after seeing our results & we are saving a fortune as Bacons is around £12 a tin?

love naf hoof moist, though if it's muddy out then we use effol as it tends to stay put a bit better. v tempted to try aqueous cream though, the ingredients are so similar it must be worth a go!

Effol is brilliant stuff. My previous horse had dry hooves in summer too and effol really helped. Although get the green stuff....the black stuff gets everywhere and seems to leave alot of residue on the hoof!
Its not too expensive, abot £14 for 1 litre. and it goes on well and really does moisturise, also its antibacterial so good for putting in around the frog.

Kevin Bacon - good stuff. We find that a couple of times a week really helps (esp. in the very hot weather mid-summer). I use the oil rather than the tar though (purely through laziness because I find it a bit easier - especially when the tar gets cold it tends to go a bit hard!). Our farrier got us onto it - he uses the tar after shoeing - keeps it next to the forge in the van do stays nice a runny for him!
