My Mark Todd autumner rug (150g) is definately leaking like a sieve :(, as it is 4years old I have decided to replace it and just keep the MT as a spare. So can someone recommend me a good 75-150g turnout.

i'm looking for one that has got a nylon outer and a reasonably high denier outer as opinion seems to be that these are much tougher and stay waterproof for longer.

Unfortunately I can't stretch to a rambo!

Thinking caps on please :)

Fal, Amigo or Premier Equine do lighter weight decent denier rugs. 40g upwards for the FAL and PE, not sure about Amigo.

From what I can see the Amigos only come in a no fill or 200g but nothing in between........or am I missing something.

I had a look at the weatherbeeta as I like their rugs, but its not a nylon outer.

Why do manufacturers assume you don't need a tough outer in a lighter weight rug? Or is it because it would make the rug too expensive?

Argghh too many choices!

If you don't mind a slightly lighter fill, would highly recommend the Fal l/w with 40g fill. Not sure what denier the outer is, but holding up well to my rug-vandal mare

Bought mine from ebay, 2nd hand, for £40-odd. Lasting well, doesn't leak etc.

Personally if on a budget, would rather buy a 'good' brand 2nd hand than spend a similar amount on cheaper brands, which seem to leak and/or rub and never last as long :)

I do like the look of the Fal pro 40g fill, but where is the best place to buy them? My local saddler (Ingatestone Saddlery) doesn't seem to sell them, don't mind buying online but would of been nice to see one in the flesh first!

Hmm, maybe call them & ask for details of your nearest stockist?

Mine was 2nd hand so didn't see before I bought, on the basis I'd just stick it back on ebay if I wasn't happy with it :)

Amigo

For that price range there are no rugs that last the way an Amigo rug does.

One of mine is 3 years old, never been repaired, re-proofed or washed (as I usually buy new ones every year) and this bloody thing is still going strong! :D, it's never leaked once.

Trouble is the Amigos don't have any fill in them, and I need something with a bit of fill - of course if someone can find one that would be great.

Don't know much about Bucas rugs will have to have a look at those too and Swish - more to choose from!

Stinky and Farra are both sporting the 100g fill Shires t/o rugs - they actually have Shires t/os in 100, 200 and 300 g fills as these rugs fit them very well - generous neck and chests and nice depth to them. They are also not that expensive and so far have been very waterproof and stood up to two horses that love to roll and play lots.

You could bob a stable rug underneith if you require something to offer a bit more warmth over winter, I'd rather have a couple of Amigo light weights and layer up underneith, should one get wet and you like to change over into a dry one on an evening, jus swop over and your other will be dry as a bone again the next morning.
