Recommend me a hoof knife/hoof knife sharpener?

I bought a hoof knife off ebay but it's about as sharp as a butter knife so not particularly useful. I guess I may I need to just spend a bit more money to buy a decent knife, but wondering whether a thorough sharpening would give it a usable edge. Doesn't need to be amazing as just for removing the odd bit of shedding frog. Can anyone recommend where to buy a good sharpener and/or knife? I don't want to end up with another failed online purchase!

Equine podiatry supplies are a reputable supplier. I’ve got this hoof knife, but haven’t actually needed to use it yet. It feels like a quality product, though.

I run my carrot knife up a brick wall, the standard red interior feed room bricks. Sharpens it brilliantly.

Is a hoof knife sharp all the way along the inside of the curve, even in the last section that bends in a tight radius?

The best place to look for sharpening supplies will probably be a supplier of woodworking tools, such as Turner's Retreat. Try looking for round diamond files and ceramic rods intended for crook knives, spoon carving knives and sculptor's gouges.

In the meantime, you could get away with strips of various grades of abrasive paper glued to wooden dowels of a diameter to go inside the curve.

Yes I believe they are supposed to be sharp into the curve. The round diamond files look like the right thing, however I just remembered I work in an industry with many hand tools etc so I'm sure I could borrow some scraps of emery paper, or if I'm lucky someone might find a spare file I could borrow!

Have a look on Youtube, too, for sharpening videos. But be careful, you might find yourself in the kitchen sharpening all the knives, and start on that slippery slope of trying to get the perfect edge; it can become addictive.

My OH sharpens mine for me with his chainsaw sharpener. It does a lovely job, almost a bit too good ?
