The "worse" the better. In the interest of my own safety and well being, I'd like a highly distracting treat for charlie while I clip his legs. It's only something he'll have for a short period and I want him as obsessed as possible with it.
I've tried various approaches and while sometimes he's ok, other times he's an absolute pain, little clippers, big clippers, corded, cordless, more frequent, less frequent - nothing makes a significant difference to the fact that more than half the time he'd like to flatten me.
I manage but it's not great, so as a bit of a final attempt I'm going to try a bit of old fashioned distraction. Ideally something I can hang - I don't mind if he pushes it against the wall and scarfs it (ideally not), if it's on the floor I'd have to tie him long enough to reach it and I'm not sure I trust him that much...
So unhealthy scrummy suggestions please

Silvermoor do a range of treats called 'swingers' (Hmm, yes really) treats that come with a rope attached. Friend bought one for cob mare on box rest. Unfortunately she hung it close enough to the wall for the mare to pin it and demolish the lot with one crunch. She did spend ten minutes hoovering up the shards though....

He's had one of those, he'd eat it but they're entirely too healthy to be as obsessed with as I need for this. Ideally I'd like something like those big blue tubs that are basically molasses but that I can hang up

The molasses horslyx lick you can get. My trimmer uses it for anything unsettled or difficult and they go nuts for it. I'm pretty sure its the original one. If you poked a hole in it it would go on the lickit holder. Or just get a lickit, but I've found they prefer the horselyx ones

one of the big horselyx, in an over-the-door feed bucket! one of mine won’t touch them anymore, because she’s fallen for the bribery so often she doesn’t trust it now🤣🤣

I use the mint one of these for clipping https://www.horslyx.com/mini-horslyx/

It doesn't hang, so unfortunately you may need a helper, but it is distracting enough to get my pony, who is also tricky to clip to stand still and accept it being done. He doesn't have it regularly, but has it as a high value reward when it's needed! I've never met a horse who didn't like them!

Edit: Plus in theory the licking is supposed to relax them, I believe?

Agree we have managed lots of things with the horslyx ones in the plastic tub the small round ones are easy to hold for them or put it in a shallow bucket while you attempt whatever your trying to do.

I think I'd diplomatically call him "tricky" to sedate initially he seems heavily sedated but he's still very reactive. The vets did him once to look at his mallanders and thought he was out enough when he was swaying and pretty much being held up. Still went for her though. I haven't the facilities to manage him that heavily out so we'll keep compromising 😬
