My poor old Sorento is on its last legs, and it's time to replace it. I've had it since almost new and it's been brilliant, but the time has come to think about replacing it.

I don't need something to tow horses with, but I do need something capable of towing the harrow round the field, preferably in 4wd, or a small trailer filled with poo, and with enough space to chuck the usual horse junk in the boot. I'm looking at either buying new or a year ish old as said car is also used for school runs, occasional work meetings, and vistiting MIL so needs to be ULEZ compliant. Also want something more economical than my current fuel guzzler ?

What do people recommend??? I don't want a land-rover as all I hear is they are not that reliable.... even the new ones? Possibly another KIA but maybe sportage? First World problems!

Obvs depends on budget and whether you are doing finance. I have a truly ancient Subaru estate (outlander) which is 4wd but estate rather than an suv so that my poor old dogs can jump in. It’s awesome - harrows fields, carts hay about, and because it’s so scruffy I don’t have to care about extra dings and scrapes. I would definitely replace it with a newer one - there are a couple of options on the petrol engine for the LEZ and efficiency considerations.

Skoda Octavia Scout.

Very practical 4x4 estate car with plenty of room for two 6ft plus rear sear passengers for 500 mile round trips - more space than the Yeti, we looked at both. Good to drive, too. Yeti was sadly discontinued in maybe 2017.

Easily gets 55+ mpg on a long motorway run.

Following this with interest as I'm in the same boat, keep changing my mind (and 2nd hand car pricing seems to be wildly all over the place at the moment) although I'm looking for something that can tow 1horse (looking at cars with a capacity around 2ton)

My current shortlist is:
VW Tiguan either 2015 onwards mk1 or mk2 if I can stretch my budget (currently have non ulez version mk1 and really like it)
Volvo XC60
Nissan x-trail
Subaru Forester
Ssangyong Korando
Mazda CX-5
Skoda Yeti
Ford Kuga

Tiguan is currently the front runner, just need to get rid of my old one first and I think that'll be the difficult part!

I recommend the Kia Sportage , not the new version as they do not tow enough but the mk 4 2l diesel . Love mine great and very easy to drive and easily tows one horse. Mpg about 45, towing about 28.
