Feel free to correct me if this might seem premature with Covid still going on, but I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on trekking centres to book a couple of half day rides for myself? Pretty much happy to go anywhere in the country - the Peaks, Lakes, Dales, Borders, Moors and Forests etc. Wales might still be a bit off limits but I do want to offer some business as I know a lot of these yards are probably really suffering right now!

Cannock Chase Trekking Centre in Staffordshire. Fabulous off-road hacking and a wide variety of horses (many of which are well-schooled and forward going). They are starting their phased reopening again this weekend (details on their Facebook page). To be fair, I am slightly biased, as it's pretty much my second home when we're not in lockdown. ;)

That plus a visit to Lichfield!

Cumbrian Heavy Horses, not the cheapest but the scenery, the horses, the experiences are all top draw!

Seconding this. They were really careful to match me with the right horse and, when it turned out I'd undersold my riding ability, the ride leader offered to let me swap onto hers. (I stuck with mine. I wanted something REALLY safe!)

Sorry to post hijack but who did you have? I've got one on winter loan at the mo.

I second Adventure Clydesdale on Dartmoor. We have been as a family (self and 2 daughters) and vet daughter has been with all her vet friends. Lovely people and smashing horses. They start in July I believe and are usually very booked up.

I would also highly recommend Cumbrian Heavy Horses. You will be asked about your riding ability when you book, i.e. novice, intermediate, advanced. If you're advanced, don't be fooled into thinking you will just plod because you're on a 'heavy'. These are fit, active horses who love a good gallop but they also have brakes!

They haven't re-opened yet but keep an eye on their Facebook page for details.

The scenery is also epic :)

Free Rein, Clyro, Herefordshire. They go on into Wales so not sure about their holidays at the moment. They do 2 day rides or up to 6 days. Very good operation.

Stonetrail in Cumbria or Cannock Chase Trekking Centre are both great and do 2 hours/half day/full day rides. Freerein at Clyro in Wales if you want a trail ride for a few days.

Trans-Wales Trains Holidays, in the Brecon Beacons. I think they're hoping to open in August. Fantastic mountain riding on fit, fast, home bred Welsh Cobs.

This is where I’m going for my 50th in October for a weekend as a present from my sister. My sister and BiL went on a longer trek last year and totally loved it.

Wow! You'll absolutely love it. The horses are something else. I'm desperate to go again and will try to book in for a day ride during the summer, if possible.
Hope you enjoy!
