Recommend me a vacuum cleaner

Not a dyson. I currently have one and it's pants. I need something that can cope with wiry terrier hairs (the type that embed themselves good and proper into upholstery), of course hay and straw that was previously attached to me, and human hair because I moult and have long hair. I have disabled a few vacuum cleaners due to my moulting and I'd like something that can cope. Prefably something that doesn't need bags but if it's good I could cope with them.
 
I think bags are essential, and no way would I repeat the dreadful cyclone experience which requires constant maintenance.
My Bosch is the best I have ever owned. Its a bit small for a large house, but I would not part with it.
 
i have a miele dog and cat cylinder vacuum cleaner and have a collie cross who moults all of the time no matter how much i brush and comb her...it has a turbo head which i use all of the time and i find it really good.it does use bags and they are not cheap but i think its worth the extra money to have an efficient vac.... my dyson lives in the cupboard under the stairs and hasnt been used for about 4 years as it didnt cope with the dog hairs and i was really disappointed as there was so much hype about how wonderful they were.....
 
I bought a cheap hoover. It was far better than my old dyson. Got all the pet hairs no problem. It's well and truly broken now, as someone decided to hoover up brick dust with it. Got a Henry , only useful on hard floors. So bought the latest dyson it's fab.
 
Henry is the only one i havent killed, I have a pony with allergies and even use Henry to hoover the corners and rafters of the stables on ocassion
 
I had an anti allergy turbo, and it needed emptying and maintenance to bitsand pieces almost every week, which involved me getting rubber gloves, dust mask followed by a shower.
If all I did was just empty it, the darn thing sulked.
Its not been used since the Bosch arrived, nor has the hoover with bag.
 
I have a dyson animal it suits me well .
I loved the Miele dog and cat I had but ... the head clogged and the bags cost a fortune and were small it took five to clean the house end to end one memeorable weekend .
But what finished it was the unreliability of the switches on the handle it broke down often in the end I binned it .
The dyson ( its acylinder one )has lasted the longest of any I have owed and boy has it been abused during the building work and it's still going strong .
 
I've been through many vacuum cleaners and Miele is the best by far. It's still going strong in a house of terriers after six years. Hmm, maybe I don't use it often enough...?
 
The most powerful yet light vacuum cleaner I have had is a vax. It will even vacuum up stones! We bring mud and stones into our house all the time and have four dogs. It copes with everything.
 
Oooh I don't know now! I have found the C2 Miele Cat & Dog on Amazon for a reasonable (ish) price. I'll go and investigate the Bosch one you have mentioned.
Isn't it funny that Dyson works for some and not others? The suction on ours, an anti-allergy animal one, it crap and it can't cope with my moulting or pick up hay and straw from the carpet.

Mine went like that, after the builder had used it to clean up brick dust. My new one is fab. Clears everything in it's path !

It may be a daft question, but did you clean the filter afterwards? The same thing happened to mine but when I thoroughly cleaned the filter, it was fine again.
 
I have taken a controversial decision and bought a Bosch! It was £50 cheaper than the Miele I'd have bought. If it's rubbish then on my head be it! I will report back once it arrives. I can tell I'm getting old as I'm quite excited for it to arrive so I can give it a whirl.

Yes, I cleaned everything . It was never the same again. It also happened to the hoover. We bought a Henry to get us though the worst of the renovations, it's impossible to kill Henry with brick dust ! My new one is now locked away from the builders

Brick dust is the worst, especially lime mortar.

Had Dyson but broke to easily then panasonic ok but.........
Now have sebo and love it would not buy anything else now
 
I have given up with Dyson as they break so easily.
Just got a Miele cat and dog cylinder and it is FANTASTIC! Didnt want a cylinder or one with bags, but I am a total convert. It easily copes with dog hair on carpets, upholstery, copes with hay, mud, leaves etc, brilliant on hard floors, goes under the edges of furniture ...... honestly cant fault it.

Wilcos do cheap bags for them, we have had Miele cat and dogs or many years, great cleaners, though I do think the older models were better than the newer ones.
 
Timely post for me as I have just broken my dyson but it is about 16 years old! Definitely won't get a vax as not had great experience with those. So dyson or miele I think!
