...which will fit inside my riding boots.

One of the ligaments in my ankle has gone, and when under a lot of strain my ankle quite literally gives way :(

So it needs to be quite substantial, whilst not cutting off the blood supply to my foot of course!

Thank you :)

I shall await the results with interest. All the ones I've been recommended are too thick to ride properly in, let alone fit in boots. The one my surgeon recommended had an inflatable collar - he was not amused when I said I wouldn't purchase one as it would clearly be useless for riding.:D

I'll confess, when it's bad, I go DIY and make my own . . . ;)

I've always been quite please with Vulkan products - although mine was for an elbow.

In the mean time have you considered something more radical like weird stirrups (k'vall) to give your ankle chance to heal?

When i royally mucked my ankle up last year I was recommended this

http://www.paincontrol.co.uk/produc...-ankle-brace-with-inflatable-air-product.html

It doesnt go inside your boot, but I used it over the top of my Ariats and Chaps. I was able to ride pain free, well mostly with it.

Then when back ready to go in the ring I asked for dispensation from the BSJA to use it. They were fine about it, just wanted a letter from my doctor.

I tried loads of ankle supports when I was recovering from a broken ankle and ligament damage, none of them easily fitted into into a riding boot. I gave up looking and strapped it.

Get a Physio or someone with strapping knowledge to show you how to strap it and get you the correct tape.

Do you wear ankle supports with orthotic insoels as well? I have been having problems with my ankles and feet and dont know if wearing both would bulk up my boots too much.

I have been looking for support for my ankle as I am sat here healing a break to my tibia at my ankle joint surface. I have found this

It certainly looks like it would fit in a boot but not sure on the strength of support.

I used these last year after damaging a tendon. They were really good, fit in shoes and are comfortable - highly recommend them. Unfortunately the best thing for recovery for mine turned out to be complete rest for a while, which I put off doing until it became so painful I had no alternative. Still wear these when I feel I might be doing something where my ankle would be at risk of turning over.

Following this too-I fractured and broke off part of the ankle bone 15 months ago also tearing ligaments etc-didn’t seem that bad at the time but had 2 ops in 8 months and still got another month until I am able to consider riding again.I have had a nightmare finding an ankle support which is comfy, easy to put on and fits in my yard Boots.Last op in August was a ligament shortening and not allowed out of the house without an ample support and boots that go over the ankle.

Taping is the best done properly, however if you are looking for a cheaper and adjustable option lace up ankle braces are excellent (literally google lace up ankle brace)
