I am moving to Southampton and bringing my mare with me.

I am looking for an assisted DIY livery. i.e they will be able to turn out or hay/water in the morning for me or evening depending on the shifts I work.

I need turnout. Mare goes potty (to ride only) without going out however the quality of the grass is not important as she is a good doer that is muzzled a lot.

I need a stable.

I need a good sized arena (if not more than one) with access to some jumps

Preferably hacking

I am moving from my lap of luxury where I have my own xc course, SJ grass arena, 3 all weathers, private land to hack on, good grazing and turnout, no poo picking and auto water drinkers so think I will be in for a change, however do not want to compromise on my horse's education or lifestyle.

We enjoy competing but will be getting a lorry imminently therefore just a nice yard where I can hack and school and have livery services available to me would be great. Like- minded people are also a bonus.

Any ideas?

Do not want a riding school/livery combination like Pinkmead or Quob.

What is Oak Hill like?

Dos anyone know anywhere in Chilworth/Chandlers Ford/Romsey?

Will consider Botley/Fair Oak/Durley/Lower Upham/Colden Common and such places.

Hi Jaffa

sounds you could be in for a culture shock moving down here :D

Oak Hill is, I understand, very nice but not sure about good hacking (anywhere round here to be honest).

Have a look on NFED or Livery List - or have a look in the local feed/saddlers as most have lots of adverts up (could need a day trip to look around).

There are a few nice yards round the Upham area and I could suggest one on the Durley/Botley border and could PM a number if interested?

Good luck

F

Try Hampshire hooves on FB or NFED website. A lot of what you described tend to be more the part livery yards and if you want DIY (with services) you may need to compromise in facilities a little.

Yes I think I will be compromising a bit. I suppose I will have to get used to carrying water buckets back and forth again :p

I have rung four places today and nobody got back to me. Great!

I've been trying to contact a yard called Cross Oaks Livery in East Wellow but noone has replied yet.

I would do part livery but I like to look after my own horse and hate the idea of coming up to everything being done ( even if it is the bain of my life doing it myself)

I will PM you for details/number in a sec :)

Oakhill is the yard just opposite me. Has excellent hacking as there is a bridlepath that goes on for miles and mile right next the fields. You may need to check their turnout policy as I don't see horses out everyday. However they are mainly show horses and it may just be the way they are kept rather than yard rules. There is never a lot of grass, but again that may suit you! There school is lovely, but be aware it is not floodlit!

Assisted DIY is not common in the area. There are pure DIY yards and then Part. Try www.liverytlist.co.uk and join https://www.facebook.com/groups/479147682101477/#!/groups/hampshirelivery/

If you want good hacking you need to be north of FairOak/Bishop Waltham etc. Botley/Durley etc don't have many bridlepaths so mainly roadwork.

the area you have mentioned stretches quite far. If you are going to live East of Eastliegh, then Wellow/Romsey is quite far!! Esp if you are going to go DIY! Have you decided where you are going to live yet?

Any questions about the area feel free to pm. I'm an instructor and know quite a few of the yards in the area ;)

I was going to ask where you will be living too as that will make a huge difference to the type of hacking. If you are the Eastleigh side then you will be looking at bridlepaths.

Wellow - the wrong side of the A36 - is just lanes and narrow lanes at that :0( The New Forest is the other side of a very busy trunk road (A36) which some people I know are happy to ride across but I wouldn't personally.

I would suspect that the reason some yards will not have got back to you is probably because they don't have any vacancies. Most of the yards with nice hacking have waiting lists!

If you want Fair Oak/Upham - Broad Oak Stables are very nice and do part livery (no idea if they have any vacancies though). A friend was there for a while but missed the hacking on the Forest so came back this side! As someone else suggested, have a look at NFED.

Hi,
Did you manage to find anything - I am moving to the area (Bishopstoke/Fair Oak/Colden Common) and I am struggling to find the perfect place!
I would like 7 day part livery (I am a bit lazier than you!) so maybe some of the places that weren't suitable for you might be for me, though I want everything you said but not DIY!
Thanks,
Bianca

Hi Biancaa

there are STACKS of Part Livey yard in the area! Much easier to find than DIY

In Fair Oak alone there is Oak Park, Miles Equestrian, Broakoak, Pembers Hill Stud and I'm sure Fiona Dunnings place does livery too?

WOW Galaxy thats a brilliant list. I have only heard of one of those yards and I have posted on Horse&Hound twice before! :)

I have sent emails to them all so fingers crossed the right one for me will have a space!

If you think of anymore please drop me a note.

Are you in the local riding clubs? I am thinking of joining when I move down? Need a whole new horsey network!

Thanks,

Bianca

Sorry! I've never seen any other thread! Feel free to pm me over anything. I keep my horse in Fair Oak so very local!

No i'm not in any of the RC. I looked into it when I moved over but they tend to do things on days I busy!

Solent are a relly friendly lot. I know people in the committee.

Meon are a VERY good club competitively wise.

It's a great area for competitions as there are so many big centre on our doorstep! :)
