Im looking for some boots that will offer my girl some protection from knocks, she is a little close behind but doesn't brush, but being young i don't want her to knock herself.

I bought her a lovely set of sports boots, but have noticed that she had developed a scabby mud fever type patch on her pastern just where the boots end, i think maybe the sand or rubber has got in there and caused a rub, i feel such a bad mum for not noticing, i have bathed the area and got rid of the scab, and obviously will not be putting anything on that can rub her for now, but want to protect her legs when we are doing a little work.

Thanks in advance :)

They look nice - I think the problem with the boots i have currently are that they wrap under the fetlock so im assuming that as there needs to be some degree of movement, the rubber and or sand has got in when she's flexing.

Yeah, boots are tricky with sensitive horses. I can't have anything that has a stitched edge on them. Only fluff or bandages work for us.
If you put the fluffy boots on a little looser so they sit further down, they do protect the pastern a little bit from knocks too, as they are so thick.

Yes, mine gets a bit greasy under neoprene boots, and (I keep them washed) it doesn't happen under sheepskin at all. He's similar to yours, very delicate little ankles. I use a sheepskin tendon set (but they're brushing boots behind instead fetlock boots) and then dressage wraps or bandages on the rare occasion I want him to look nice :p It doesn't happen under bandages either, but they're too much effort for every day.

Trust me to have ANOTHER sensitive horse, my last boy was very sensitive skinned, but he didn't really need boots.

I would love bandages or dressage wraps, but the idea of bandaging daily seems a bit of a chore if i don't need to, plus it frightens me as i have never done bandages before, and wouldn't know where to start.

Im off to HOYS on Thursday, so maybe is should look at some decent sheepskin brushing boots for her and her delicate little ankles, bless her.
