As title says, really as I'm thinking of buying clippers all of my own and have no idea where to start. I've clipped before (love it, so satisfying

) but haven't had to buy/maintain clippers up to now.
My horse is great to clip so no probs with wires/noise, would be clipping for my self 3-4 times a winter, possibly for a couple of friends too, so they might be used 10-15 times every year. I want easy to use, easy to clean, straightforward, bog standard clippers. My YM has a blade sharpener and will do that for a charge, so getting the blades done isn't a problem. I also need a bit of advice on what oil to buy to use when clipping - is it usually available from tack shops?

Not that bothered about new or second hand, really, I know they tend to cost around £200 new, so am preparing my credit card for the bad news

I've been having a look and there's so many brands, it's all a bit confusing! Ease of use and maintainance are my priority, tbh, as I won't be using them all that often, really.
 
I used to have a pair of Heineger Handy Clippers and I reckon they would be perfect for you- they are easy to use and maintain, they seem to cope with clipping lots of horses and the blades are easy to tension and use and replacement blades are quite a good price. They are slightly over the £200 mark.

I now have Hauptner 2000's and I wish I had never got rid of the Heinegers!
 
I have lister stablemates. they are really really simple to use, clean and change blades, tension etc. Have seen lots of people struggle with other brands, so would definitely recommend mine or any other listers I have seen work the same way.
They come with a bottle of oil and it's cheap to order more as well.

I hope to sell mine to get a set of the cordless ones (lister liberty) at some stage.

Another supporter of the Heinger Handy clippers. I have a pair and they are fab, do a google search for farmcare uk, I got mine from here and they are the cheapest around by far.

Also offer sharpening at about £3 a set and have other blades stocked. Bought mine last year, got an extra pair of fine blades and it all came to just under £200!

I bought new Heiniger handy on eBay from farmcareuk. I paid about £160, think they are £185 now. They were brand new and exactly as they should be. Still working 2 years later. Hope this helps.
 
Hi, you said your YM has a blade sharpening machine, just a word of warning. Is it a blade sharpening machine for horse/cattle blades or for saw and tool/chisel blades. The difference is amazing and the wrong machine will totally "goose" your blades and stop your clipper working. Whatever clipper you buy, I always reccomend the manufacturers own service dept for sharpening, or third parties like clippersharp in Devon or HCS up north have very good reputations.
