Hubby usually rides in short boots and chaps (we only hack). He says that the chaps catch on the saddle and mark the saddle and pull the stitching on the inside of the chaps. He has some long riding boots which he used to compete in but these are quite thin leather and smooth soled. He's looking for some chunkier long boots suitable for both yard work and riding. I have ariat grasmere boots and I think he is looking for something along these lines, as he says he would prefer boots without a zip, but preferably without the huge price tag. Does anyone have any recommendations.

My husband rides in Mountain Horse High Riders, and likes them. You can get a version of the Ariat Grassmere for men but they aren't as nice looking, more clunky, so it put my DH off. I think Dublin do a copy if you want something cheaper.

I'd check out Dublin, Shires and Toggi for cheaper riding boots, I've seen some pretty good boots from them recently for a slightly lower budget.
