When I ride my toes go numb. I'm not sure if it is the stirrups, my leg position, or some weird medical condition whose symptoms only surface when I am riding :D

I am only a happy hacker, if that is of any relevance, and think I have heard others on here complain of a similiar problem and different stirrups were advised.

Which stirrups should I try?

I use stubben double offset irons, they help put you in the correct position and I find them extremely comfortable. Haven't ever suffered from numb toes, but did used to get very sore ankles until I started using these.

Do you ever take your feet out and wiggle them about a bit and does it still happen? Are you bracing your feet in the stirrups?

I do take my feet out from time to time, which eases the numbness/pins and needles for a while, but it comes back when my foot is back in. I really do think that a lot of it is down to my leg position, I try to force my lower leg into the heels down, toes pointing forward position, which doesn't come naturally because I don't ride that often. My right foot is always fine, but that is because I can't put it in the 'correct' position due to an old injury. I do get my heel down, but my toe tends to point outwards. With my left foot I feel that I am pushing the ball of my foot down hard on the stirrup. With my right foot the ball of my foot isn't below my knee so I am unable to put as much pressure on it.

I can't really ride. I did ride as a youngster and worked as a groom when I left school, but I reckon I have forgotten 90% of everything I was taught. I just pootle around at a walk and occassionally a trot to get of trouble and am happy with that. Perhaps I should forget about the perfect leg position and get comfy :D Fat Lad used to be a trekking pony, so am pretty sure he has had worse riders on his back than me!

I will have a look at all the stirrups recommended, I do quite like the idea of the endurance ones, they might distribute the pressure over a wider area.
