We have a new lorry which is about to be signwritten with our logo, we want to get a load of rugs to leave on the lorry that we can have embroidered with our logo so they all look smart when the go out. Ideally these will all be grey, navy or black (we haven't made a final decision yet!). We'll also need dressage squares and travelling boots to match the rugs. I'm not worried about going to a specific embroidery place as we have someone that can do all of that for us. Ideally I would like to get as much as poss from one supplier to make things a little easier.

So far I think we need:
5 thermatexes or similar
5 lightweight coolers
5 summersheets
5 stable rugs
lots of white saddlecloths
lots of sets of white bandages
5 sets of travelling boots

If you can think of anything else or can recommend specific rugs etc that would be great.

Thanks X

You'd probably find that the rug embroiderers carry their own rugs etc so might be worth having a chat before you order anything else. Either that or see if you can persuade your local tack shop to order in what you need and give you a discount for a bulk purchase.

That would be great and hopefully what we will try to do, but I looking for some recommendations for rugs that people already have that they like. It will depend on colour a bit when we have the final design for the lorry but just wanted some suggestions to narrow it down. Equally if you have any that you really wouldn't rate then I'd love to hgear abot them too before buying a load!

Do you have a price bracket for these items?

Also, I'd choose black AND grey If i were you as these colours look fab together & more modern than navy. Just my opinion. However, Eskadron do lots of navy things which are super-smart!

I have a coolex rug which is absolutely brilliant, bought upon reccomendations from here. You can buy them in black or navy here - http://www.countrysupplies.com/item.asp?i=1402 - for £83.99.
I bought a coolex rather than a thermatex as they have conventional fastenings rather than a single surcingle & roko buckles.

Also, you could get everything you wanted from equiport but it'd cost a fortune... however EVERYthing would match perfectly.

Thanks that's great.

I think we may end up going for black with grey actually! The lorry is a sort of gun metal grey colour and the logo will probably end up silver so perhaps black rugs etc with silver embroidery?

Haven't seen equiport srtuff so will go and investigate!

Premier Equine could do your rugs etc from their range and embroider it all for you.

Thanks Scotsmare, do you know what the quality is like on their rugs etc?

Thanks they look good, like I said I'm open to suggestions!

What I basically need is something to travel them in on colder days (thermatex), something for not so cold days (lightweight cooler or similar), then a couple of rugs for when we have to stay away (that's why I was thinking summer sheet and a stable rug).

I've seen PE coolers at my yard (not mine) - they are really smart, and very good quality, nice material, neat trim etc.
I have PE turnouts too...they're well made (can't tell you about stable rugs as my horses are feral).

I have a lot of PE rugs and find the quality very good. Turnouts especially are in the same league as Rambo as they don't move. We have their fleece travel rugs as well and they're great - look really smart with embroidery and if you buy them without having them stitched are a bargain - only about £25 each.

Thanks S & S, that's given me another option then. To be honest if they are purely for travelling and staying away they wouldn't have to be as tough as ones for everyday use. I'd just like them to look pretty really!

Have you looked at the shires website? I always find their rugs etc of a good quality, and they may do you discount if you are ordering all at once.

i would go for coolex rugs for winter travelling, and maybe coolex wrap round excersize sheets for warming up at comps-extra luxury

all matching and embroidered would be so smart
a planish fleece for summer, any brand i suppose, although i agree that shires fleeces are good
ive always liked the rambo cotton coolers, which would be good for the summer
nuumed half fleece white saddlecloths would be very swish
most rugs are available in most colours so should be easy to match
goodness im very jealous

when you have them ordered and collected we must see some piccies

travel boots wise i have premier equine ones which are good, and mark todds are suppost to be good

Thanks very much for all the suggestions, I've just got to get the husband to pull his finger out with getting the truck logo done and then I'll know what colour to get.

Peachesandcream, yes I'm quite excited about our first outing when it is all organised, I'll just have to keep everything crossed that nobody is naughty once they're all logoed up!

I currently have the MT travel boots, the only problrm I have with them is that I find they get chewed up in the washing machine.

ah yes ive had the travel boot chewing problem too.

i now wash them one at a time (when they need washing), in a wash bag, and touch wood they are fine!

Nagrags are nice looking but you need a BIG bank balance to buy all the stuff - my daughter was trying to stitch me up at xmas time - saddlecloth, xc shirt, rug, and skull cap cover with embroidery came to the best part of £250! Needless to say Santa 'forgot' that one....

I had a couple of Nags Rags rugs that didn't wear too well and stretched horribly around the neck, that was years ago though so maybe they are better now.

As for the travelling boots, we have a large washing machine in the tackroom (it will take 7' rugs), I only put 2 in at a time but they still come out looking battered and bruised! The washbag may be an idea but where do you get one big enough?

our local tack shop sold the wash bags, they are pillow case size with a zip (mum bought it cos she was fed up with me filling her washing machine with horse hair)
i can only fit one boot in the bag (especially the hind boots), but just buy 2 bags, the one i have wasnt too expensive, so shouldnt cost the earth, and it definietly solved my problem

if your getting a thermatex i would personally go for the colin cook (or other but CC version is all i have exp of) version over the original thermatex - thermatex snag/get holes very very easily as i found, mine got caught on a stable door rough edge and snagged straight away whereas i leave my colin cook/thermalux over the door all the time and it looks good as new with not a single thread out of place. so if your going for smartness i dont personally think a thermatex would serve you well unless you are going to be extra careful with them. i certainly wont be buying any thermatex products again i think they are naff! from the colin cook range i have 2 rugs, leg wraps and a tail guard - cant recommend enough.

That's interesting, I've had about 15 thermatexes with the eldest being around 12 years old now. Never had any problems with them even with the itchy old pony and none have snags or holes. I can appreciate that some people don't like the buckles but personally we haven't had any probs and you can order cross surcingles if you prefer. We've also got thermatex leg wraps (the cordura ones) and have found that these can be left on overnight without any problems, we've had these about 5 years and they still look great. I have however had the opposite experience with the thermalux though! I found that they don't wick sweat/water half as well as the thermatexes and they stretch and lose their shape. Wouldn't buy another one as our was a bit of a waste of money IMO. I also think the thermatexes look smart with the logos on (like all the ones worn by winning horses at the Winter Championships) but I know this is just personal preference.

Hi by the way, we're not far from Fawkham at all!
smile.gif

All down to personal preference like you say, one bad experience has just put me off, i like my gear to be pretty tough and sturdy, as i sometimes see the leg wraps go a bit nora batty too overnight which i don't like. there are so many different varieties of the original thermatex brand now though so its great to have a choice.

Good luck with kitting out what sounds like a very nice posh horse box!
